Spotlight: Our Free Online Education Series and Why We Created It

Education should not stop after school, adulthood, or diagnosis.

Learning is a lifelong journey that continues through conversation, community, support, and shared experiences. At JDS Creative Academy, we believe everyone deserves access to educational opportunities that help them grow, build confidence, and navigate life with greater knowledge and understanding.

That belief led to the creation of JDS Presents!, our Free Online Education Series.

Over the years, JDS Creative Academy has worked alongside adults with disabilities, caregivers, families, educators, advocates, and community members through arts education, workforce development, life skills training, and community engagement programs. Through these experiences, one thing became clear: people are looking for trusted information, practical resources, and opportunities to learn from others who understand their journey.

Questions about future planning, employment, independent living, financial literacy, mental health, technology, accessibility, and community resources are part of everyday life for many individuals and families. While information on these topics exists, it is not always easy to find, and it is not always presented in a way that feels approachable, encouraging, and relevant.

That is why JDS Presents! was created.

The goal of the Online Education Series is simple: to bring valuable education and meaningful conversations directly to the community through free monthly virtual learning sessions. By offering these programs online, participants can join from anywhere and access resources, experts, and discussions that can positively impact their lives.

What makes this series unique is its focus on real-life topics that matter. Throughout the year, sessions may explore financial literacy, trusts and estate planning, caregiver resources, employment and workforce readiness, independent living skills, mental health and emotional wellness, accessibility, advocacy, artificial intelligence, personal growth, and more.

The series also provides an opportunity to learn from a diverse group of guest speakers and community voices. Sessions may feature authors, educators, financial professionals, attorneys, nonprofit leaders, technology experts, advocates, and individuals with lived experience. Each speaker brings valuable knowledge and perspectives that help participants better understand the challenges and opportunities they may encounter.

At its core, JDS Presents! is about more than education.

It is about connection.

It is about creating a space where people feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, discovering resources, and learning together. It is about building a stronger, more informed community where individuals and families feel supported and empowered.

As part of JDS Creative Academy's commitment to inclusive arts education, workforce development, and lifelong learning, the Online Education Series reflects the organization's mission to create opportunities that educate, inspire, and empower. It extends that mission beyond the classroom by providing accessible learning experiences that meet people where they are.

Every session is also archived, allowing participants to revisit past presentations or catch up on topics they may have missed. This ensures that learning remains available long after the live event has ended.
