THE DIVINING PENDULUM

There is a very common misconception amongst practitioners of the divining arts, and it is a belief that their chosen instrument has some kind of power. If this was the case, one could reasonably argue that the tea-leaves in one’s cup are equally able to provide answers. True, one never knows, for who am I to say the truth does not lie there.

Such a haphazard form of reasoning is perfectly understandable if we do not know how the process works. How is it possible to obtain an answer to a question from a device such as a pendulum, rods, hazel twig or other? Although the answer to that is key, it is not the subject of this paper, and will be dealt with later. It is vital, essential even, to appreciate that the medium (pendulum, rods, hazel twig) does NOT contain the answer, so should NOT be considered as an oracle!

Unfortunately, many people invest a property into something which is no more than a simple medium. And there is a very real danger if one does believe such that the energy invested can assume a force of its own, and it then becomes easy for the human mind to misappropriate and manipulate that imagined power.

There lies the problem - Ignorance and her brother Mystification are alive and well!

If we delude ourselves like that we fall into the trap of believing that we can control something which is not ours to control.

This does not mean that a crystal, stone or precious metal pendulum does not have its individual properties, BUT A DIVINING CAPACITY IS NOT, NEVER HAS BEEN AND NEVER WILL BE ONE OF THEM.

So to resume, the pendulum is a simple means to accomplish an end.

Having said that, there are definitely different categories of pendulum readily available on the market, and an appreciation of their characteristics might help our understanding, these are:

Category 1

Any weight that can be attached to a string/thread/chain and comfortably held in the hand. This weight could be made of crystal, metal, wood, or basically any substance that has the necessary mass to gyrate under an inciting force of muscular impulse created by the translation to the nerves so as to obtain a yes or no response. That yes or no movement is not something the inanimate weight decides, why should a pendulum have some magical capacity just because you think it does? In a structured approach to this sci-art it is thanks to what the French radiesthesists called the Convention that the yes or no movement is determined. It is for the practitioner to decide right from the start how they would like their pendulum to move. This type of pendulum can of course be used to indicate a direction, as when searching for a lost object, as also when using a chart.

Category 2

A pendulum as above but with the additional option to contain or support a witness. The witness being the object of one’s research. The perfect example of this would be the Mermet pendulum. The top can be unscrewed revealing a cavity in which you can place a substance (e.g. gold, silver, emerald, etc.), a lock of hair, a finger nail or similar containing the DNA of the subject, a piece of paper on which you have written the details of your search (name and date of birth for medical dowsing). This takes the divining process from a straightforward yes or no answer to what I would call an intermediate application stage.

The idea being that with the witness physically present, it is one less idea in the mind of the dowser needed for the search. The witness represents the object searched for.

A cylinder on which you attach a piece of paper containing information specific to the research. This was especially employed by Jean de la Foye using the Hebrew alphabet in his rather esoteric research into energetic forces.

Category 3

A pendulum thanks to its geometric shape, construction or form which has the capacity to generate a frequency or frequencies. This type of pendulum has vast potential and the greatest of care is needed to avoid accident or death in its use. Leon Chaumery, the physicist colleague of André de Belizal, died of dehydration in 1957 after working on the development of the Universal Pendulum. De Belizal attributed the cause to the life-taking negative green frequency in the electric phase, a frequency also generated by the Cheops pyramid which was used as a model for their research. The danger is real as any research into this domain of form is publicly undocumented and unexplored for the most part.

One of the best pendulum makers in Europe is Pracownia Baj and they have, over the years, introduced a broad range of pendulums. By using the homeopathic-radionic technique of energy transfer their offer of remedy pendulums is unique, and allows for an authentic healing-type application.

The applications for this type of pendulum are immense, and the probable cause of a confusion in the mind of the pendulum divining community that ANY pendulum can achieve the intended aim.
