Why Every Remodel Needs a Lighting Plan (And How It Saves You Money)

Lighting is one of the most important — and most overlooked — parts of design. A good lighting plan makes your space feel bright, intentional, and high-end. A bad one makes even beautiful materials look dull.

1. Lighting Changes Everything

Lighting affects:

  • Paint color

  • Tile color

  • Mood

  • Functionality

  • Shadow placement

2. You Need More Light Than You Think

Most homes need 2–3 layers of lighting:

  • Ambient (recessed)

  • Task (under-cabinet, vanity)

  • Decorative (pendants, sconces)

3. Lighting Placement Matters

Pendants must be centered.
Sconces must be mounted at the right height.
Recessed lights must be spaced properly.

4. A Lighting Plan Prevents Rework

Without one, contractors have to redo wiring = extra cost.
