I have to say I am one of the most fortunate people to send my instruments to Patrick. While I tinker with guitars as well, I truly appreciate and value how his work leads to a truly perfected instrument. Patrick always answers any of my questions and I value his time and experience more than anyone else. If you are looking for a luthier technician, Patrick McGrath is the best in the business.
Thank you Patrick for allowing me to be the best that I can through you offering the best you do.

Patrick is the best!
I've had dozens of instruments and amps repaired by him in the last few years. He really knows his stuff (he's worked for Westwood Music and Carruthers Guitars up in LA) and can do everything from a basic setup to a re-fret to a neck-reset on a vintage instrument. His prices are very fair, his turnaround time is quick and customer service is unparalleled. He's a hell of guitar/bass player to boot.
I've been to about a dozen different "luthiers" and guitar repair shops in OC over the last 15 years - Patrick will be getting all of my business from now on

Patrick did work a couple years back on my Silvertone mandolin, probably from 20s-30s. It had a gap in the bookmatched soundboard due to shrinkage. He did a masterful job piecing in the gap, installing a missing nut & restringing it. I just picked up my prima balalaika. He glued down the pickguard which came loose at one point. Both insts play like a charm. I would recommend his shop to anyone.

HISTORY
A guitar repair shop is a specialized service provider that offers various maintenance and restoration services for guitars. These services may include re-stringing, fret dressing, neck adjustments, and repairs to address issues like cracks or breaks. Guitar repair shops also handle cosmetic enhancements such as finish touch-ups and provide electronic repairs for instruments with faulty wiring or components. Additionally, these shops may offer services like pickup installation, bridge repair or replacement, and complete restoration for vintage or damaged guitars. The goal is to maintain, improve, or restore the playability, aesthetics, and overall functionality of guitars for musicians.
The history of guitar shops is intertwined with the evolution of the guitar over several centuries. While the specific origin of the first guitar shop is challenging to pinpoint, the concept gained prominence in the 19th century as the guitar became increasingly popular. The mid-20th century saw the establishment of specialized guitar shops, coinciding with the rise of iconic guitar brands and diverse musical genres. In the late 20th century and beyond, guitar shops, both physical and online, have become integral hubs for musicians, offering a wide range of instruments, accessories, and services. Today, they continue to play a vital role in fostering a vibrant community for guitar enthusiasts worldwide.

Re-stringing is the procedure of renewing the strings on a guitar. Typically performed to uphold optimal tone quality and playability, this maintenance task involves the removal of old strings and the installation of new ones.
Fret dressing is a guitar maintenance technique that involves leveling and reshaping the frets. This process is carried out to address problems such as fret buzzing or uneven playing surfaces, ensuring a smoother and more consistent playing experience.
Neck adjustment, or truss rod adjustment, refers to the modification of the neck's curvature using the truss rod. This procedure is undertaken to optimize the playability of a guitar and resolve issues like fret buzz by achieving the right balance in neck relief.
Action adjustment involves altering the height of the strings above the fretboard on a guitar. This tuning is done to improve playability and comfort, ensuring that the strings are set at an optimal height for ease of playing.
Intonation setup is the process of adjusting the length of guitar strings to guarantee accurate pitch across the entire fretboard. This ensures that notes played at different positions on the neck stay in tune, contributing to overall sound precision.
Crack repair in guitars involves addressing cracks in the body or neck. This repair process typically includes using glue and, in some cases, reinforcing materials to restore structural integrity and prevent further damage.
Pickup installation
refers to the addition or replacement of pickups in an electric guitar, aiming to modify or enhance its tonal characteristics. This process allows players to customize their instrument's sound by selecting pickups with specific features or qualities.
Bridge repair or replacement
involves fixing or substituting the component on a guitar that anchors the strings to the body. This is often necessary to maintain proper intonation and playability, ensuring the instrument's overall functionality.
Refretting is the procedure of removing and replacing frets on a guitar, usually performed when the existing frets show signs of wear and tear. This maintenance task is crucial for restoring the instrument's playability and ensuring a smooth and even playing surface.
Electronic repairs for guitars involve addressing issues with the instrument's electronics, including fixing problems with wiring, switches, or potentiometers. This repair work ensures that the guitar's electronic components function correctly, contributing to its overall performance and sound quality.
Finish touch-up involves repairing minor damage to a guitar's finish, such as scratches or dents. This cosmetic repair enhances the instrument's appearance, ensuring it looks well-maintained and preserving its aesthetic appeal.
Headstock repair is the process of fixing cracks or breaks in the headstock of a guitar. The headstock, being a vulnerable area prone to damage, is crucial to address, as this repair ensures structural integrity and prevents further issues with the instrument.
