Step Two: Skills Assessment

This assessment consists of situational questions and short answer responses designed to evaluate your skills and understanding as a business development representative.

Some questions will require you to record a video or voice message.

Please answer each section to the best of your ability.

A few rules to follow:

1. Attempt all questions - here we are testing your research and critical thinking skills.

Please note that this is an open-book assessment, and you are welcome to use AI tools and conduct research to assist you in answering the questions. However, simply copying and pasting responses from AI without rephrasing will result in disqualification, so ensure that your answers are in your own words.

2. Please make sure all links are clickable and shareable before submitting.

3. Please make sure that your voice is clear in all recordings, if any.

4. Please make sure your sheets are accessible to everyone as "view only".

5. You are welcome to work on this assessment at your convenience throughout the day. However, please ensure that you save all your responses in a Word document as a backup, in case they are not saved within this application when you return.

Part 1: Sales Strategy and Process Knowledge

Please write a brief response to the following questions.

1. Describe the key differences between inbound and outbound sales strategies. How would you prioritize them in your role as a BDR?

2. What are the main steps you would take to qualify a lead? Explain your reasoning for each step.

3. What kind of information would you need to gather about a company or market before deciding which segment or persona to focus your outreach on, and why?

Part 2: Situational Questions

Please provide a detailed response to each of the following scenarios. For the video/voice recording questions, record your response and submit it.

Scenario 1 (Voice/Video Response):

1. You are about to make a cold call to a potential client. Record a 1-2 minute video or voice message where you introduce yourself, explain your company’s value proposition, and attempt to schedule a follow-up meeting. How do you make the introduction engaging and compelling?

Scenario 2 (Voice/Video Response):

2. You’ve been emailing a potential client for weeks with no response. You’ve tried reaching out multiple times, but they’re not engaging with your emails. Record a 1-2 minute video or voice message where you leave a voicemail for the prospect. Focus on how you would catch their attention and encourage them to get back to you.

Scenario 3 (Voice/Video Response):

3. You have a prospect who is hesitant about your product due to price concerns. Record a 1-2 minute video or voice message where you address the price objection while emphasizing the value your product or service provides. How do you keep the conversation going and maintain interest?

Scenario 4 (Voice/Video Response):

4. You’re speaking to a decision-maker who has expressed that they’re already happy with their current solution but are open to hearing about alternatives. Record a 1-2 minute video or voice message where you respond to their statement and try to differentiate your product in a way that feels non-pushy but still persuasive.

Scenario 5 (Voice/Video Response):

5. A potential client has shown interest in your product, but you need to handle multiple follow-up steps and timelines. Record a 1-2 minute video or voice message where you walk the prospect through the next steps in the process, ensuring you maintain a positive and professional tone.

Scenario 6:

6. A client expresses hesitation due to price objections, saying they feel your solution is too expensive compared to competitors. What would your approach be to address their concerns while highlighting the value of your product or service?

Scenario 7:

7. You’ve just learned that a key prospect has signed with a competitor. How would you handle the situation and prevent further loss of potential business from this client or similar clients in the future?

Scenario 8:

8. You’ve been assigned a list of leads that have varying levels of interest in your product. Some are highly engaged, while others are cold. How would you prioritize your outreach efforts and how would you structure your initial calls to maximize your chances of success?

Part 3: Case Study

Assume you were hired as a BDR at Virtual Worker Now, VWN provides cost-effective, vetted remote teams for customer support, sales specialists, and admin roles—customized to each business's needs. Unlike traditional recruiters, VWN stays involved post-hire to manage performance and ensure long-term success.

The company’s website: https://virtualworkernow.com/ , your ICP is SME companies in the USA and Canada. You are required to create an outreach strategy that should include the following points:

1. What steps would you follow to research a potential prospect before reaching out?

2. How would you tailor VWN’s value proposition to decision-makers in a SaaS company (or any industry of your choice)?

3. Which outreach channels would you use, and why?

4. What would your outreach cadence look like (number of touchpoints, frequency, etc.)?

5. Write a cold email to the CEO of a U.S.-based e-commerce company you’ve been targeting. Your goal is to get a meeting.

Part 4: Commitment and Business Model Understanding

Our company provides dedicated customer support specialists to our clients. These specialists are employees of our company, not freelancers or contractors, and not employees of the client. It’s important to understand that, meaning:

You must strictly follow our internal policies, including sending daily Beginning-of-Day (BOD) and End-of-Day (EOD) reports.
You must remain responsive and active throughout your scheduled shift. This means responding to your client within 30 mins max and giving updates every 2 hours.
You must follow our internal leave policy.
