Michael Kay’s career journey is a testament to service, resilience, and compassion. After spending 18 years in law enforcement, where he worked to protect and strengthen communities, Michael felt called to take on a different kind of mission—one focused on uplifting individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Guided by his belief that every person deserves dignity, safety, and the chance to rebuild their lives, he has shifted his focus toward creating real solutions that restore hope and help people regain their place in the community.
The Truth Podcast is part of Camp Hope, a grassroots initiative that began in March 2017 in Yakima, Washington. It was formed in response to urgent pleas from local officials as the city faced a growing homelessness crisis. At the time, Yakima had seen a sharp rise in people living on the streets, with an unsupervised encampment spreading across an abandoned downtown lot near homes and businesses. Camp Hope was established to provide safety, structure, and compassion—offering shelter, resources, and a pathway forward for those in need. Since its founding, it has become a symbol of hope in the Yakima Valley, addressing both immediate challenges and long-term solutions for homelessness.
