Observe your patterns

Do you have thoughts, beliefs, emotions, or behaviours that are not serving you?

Are they blocking you from reaching those goals you keep wishing for?

I have a pretty good idea that no amount of wishing is going to get you where you want or need to be.

Maybe you have tried setting detailed SMART (Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Based) goals but still never got what you wanted.

The key to achieving those goals is to get the unconscious mind onboard with your plan prior to carrying out the action steps.

From my time as the Success Slow Coach, I have come to understand that if your unconscious and conscious minds are not in agreement with regards to your goals, progress will stall or simply not happen. In fact, your unconscious mind will present itself through thoughts, beliefs, emotions, or behaviours that simply block your path, in an attempt to keep you safe.

“So how do I do get my unconscious mind to play nicely?”

Well let’s look at the process of becoming ‘SLOW’ and the four steps to achieving more and becoming your very own Slow Coach:

  1. Stop and reset

  2. Listen to your intuition

  3. Observe your patterns

  4. Wonder about new possibilities.

Let’s have a closer look at step 4 – observe your patterns. Mindful observation of our beliefs will ultimately lead to greater conscious awareness of the patterns that don’t serve us.

I remember when eating sugar was just a normal daily action in my life. It was a very unconscious behaviour that had stemmed from a childhood surrounded by amazing sweets shared with lots of love. I did not realise at the time that I had unconsciously linked the intake of sweet foods to receiving love from my family. It was not until I had become consciously aware of this link that I could action my desired behaviour, namely, to accept love in a far healthier way for my body. I now no longer consume sugar or even crave it in anyway. This is the power of making the unconscious conscious – willpower alone is not enough!

Have you ever had that moment when you realised you HAD to make a serious change for the better but no matter how hard you tried the change wouldn’t stick? I did. I allowed my obsession for sweet foods to control my life for many years. It wasn’t until I had children of my own that I began to understand the serious ramifications of a high sugar intake. Once I utilised the power of my unconscious mind to unlock the real reasons behind my sugar cravings, I began a new path toward better mental and physical health.

Let me ask you this… How prepared are you to let go of the patterns that no longer serve you?
