When was the last time you were so excited about a new opportunity that you were overcome with happiness?

Life is far too short to be stuck in victimhood, just waiting for luck to favour you whilst you continue to humour your old behaviours and beliefs that don’t serve you.

What if I told you that you can create the future you want when you are brave enough to Slow down and face your challenges head on?

Maybe you are facing financial, mental, emotional, physical or spiritual problems that you cannot see or feel your way out of, yet.

From my experience as a coach and a therapist, I believe that if we start with a highly detailed idea of the desired end result we want, then we are far more likely to make our goals become a reality. Why does this make a difference?

Research tells is that the unconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what is imagined and what is real in an altered state of consciousness – in other words a daydream like state or in flow.

This state is commonly used by athletes to improve their performance with guided imagery or visualisations becoming part of their training preparation. In fact, a 2005 study[1] showed that mental imagery combined with physical practice greatly improves performance even with beginning athletes.

So how can you use this knowledge to get you what you want? It’s all in the ability to let your mind freely wonder at the new possibilities that could eventuate in your life without the constraints of the analytical conscious mind interfering.

One of my clients is very well versed at this practice and uses it to prepare herself for difficult conversations with staff. She spends time imagining the outcome she wants in detail and all working through the possible things that could get in the way of that outcome. She then mentally rehearses the resourceful sights, sounds, thoughts and feelings that she wants available to her mind and body during the conversation. Not only does this calm her and build her confidence but it gives her unconscious mind the idea that this has already happened, so next time when it really does happen her body and mind are working as a team and know how to respond. She is literally creating a new neural pathway in her brain for the desired outcome she wants. She is not wasting her precious energy constantly focused on all of the negative outcomes that could and most likely never will eventuate.

Allowing yourself to wonder at the new possibilities in your life is a crucial part of achieving any goal and is most often overlooked in favour of simply carrying out the action steps. Successfully achieving any goal is far easier when you have a detailed idea of what the outcome of that goal will look, sound, and feel like for you. It’s like a try before you buy system.

If you really want that goal, make sure you know exactly what you are chasing before you take that first step. Open your mind to wonder at the possibilities and make your goals exciting!
