Toby Tiangco Urges Focus on 2025 Budget Scandal, Calls for Accountability
Navotas City Representative Toby Tiangco has urged the public and lawmakers not to lose focus on the controversies surrounding the 2025 national budget, stressing the need for accountability among key officials involved in its passage.
Tiangco pointed specifically to former Speaker Martin Romualdez, saying those in leadership positions should not be celebrating while serious allegations tied to budget insertions remain unresolved. According to Tiangco, issues related to questionable allocations—particularly in flood control projects—appear to have faded from public discussion despite their scale and impact.
He emphasized that the House of Representatives should take concrete steps to restore public trust, including publishing detailed project listings from the Department of Public Works and Highways that received congressional insertions under the 2025 General Appropriations Act.
Tiangco added that transparency measures would not only clarify which projects were endorsed by lawmakers but would also help investigators establish accountability should irregularities be confirmed. He noted that recent actions by the National Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Ombudsman highlight the seriousness of the allegations and the need for sustained public scrutiny.
As investigations continue, Tiangco warned against distraction, stressing that the central issue remains the responsible use of public funds and the obligation of leaders to answer for decisions made in crafting the national budget.
