Instructor Bio
Colton Gurley is an apprentice instructor in Contemporary Jeet Kune Do/Kali certified by Sifu Gregory M. Vecchi, Ph.D., under Rapid-Action Jeet Kune Do. Colton is a veteran who completed U.S. Army Combative Level 1 and Mounted and Urban Combat training. He also has training in Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, and Western Boxing. Colton earned a B.S. in Kinesiology and is certified in CPR, AED, and first aid. Committed to excellence, Colton continually strives to advance his skills and those of his students at VGI Tactics.
Robert Clifton dedicated 27 years to the Illinois State Police, retiring with distinction as a Sergeant. Throughout his career, he played pivotal roles on the down-state SWAT team, serving as an entry member, sniper, and ultimately, the team commander.
Robert has trained alongside some of the nation’s most elite police and U.S. military counter-terror units, collaborating with various law enforcement agencies on critical operations.
Throughout his tenure, Robert has instructed nearly 1,000 officers in the use of pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, and patrol rifles, as well as in sniper operations and close quarters battle (CQB). He co-authored essential lesson plans on these topics, including active shooter response. Additionally, Robert has taught thousands of students in commercial firearm training at VGI Tactics, overseeing the firing of millions of rounds without incident.
As a competitive shooter, Robert achieved remarkable success, serving as the captain of the World Champion Police Service Rifle Team. He also earned a coveted spot in the National Top 20 at the U.S. Wimbledon Cup, the premier 1000-yard shooting event in the country.
A staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, Robert is an NRA Life Member and an active member of the Illinois State Rifle Association. He is also a long-time advocate for concealed carry rights.
