The Heartbeat of Our Practice: Celebrating Dental Hygienists Week April 12–18

National Dental Hygienists Week: April 12–18, 2026

Every April, the second week is dedicated to celebrating dental hygienists — the professionals who are often the first to spot early signs of disease, the ones who spend the most time with patients, and the unsung heroes who keep your mouth (and often your whole body) healthier than you may realize.

This week at Lifetime Family Dental, we want to shine a light on our hygiene team. They show up every day not just to clean teeth — but to genuinely care for people.

What Does a Dental Hygienist Actually Do?

Most people think of their hygienist as "the one who cleans my teeth." And while that's true, it barely scratches the surface of what a skilled dental hygienist does during your visit:

  • Performs a thorough oral health assessment, including checking for gum disease, bone loss, and soft tissue changes

  • Reviews your health history and flags any medications that affect oral health

  • Takes and analyzes dental X-rays

  • Removes tartar and plaque buildup above and below the gumline

  • Screens for early signs of oral cancer

  • Educates patients on home care routines specific to their needs

  • Documents findings that help Dr. Godfrey make the best treatment recommendations

In short: your hygienist is your oral health partner. A great hygienist appointment is one where you learn something, feel cared for, and leave with a clear picture of your dental health.

Why Hygiene Is the Foundation of Everything We Do

Dr. Chris Godfrey began his career as a dental hygienist in 2005 — well before becoming a dentist. That background shapes how Lifetime Family Dental operates. Preventive care isn't an afterthought here; it's the foundation. We believe catching problems early — and teaching patients how to prevent them — saves discomfort, cost, and time for everyone.

That's why our hygiene team is so central to who we are.

A Note of Gratitude

To our hygiene team: thank you. Thank you for the patience you show with nervous patients. Thank you for remembering patients' names, kids, and life updates. Thank you for the care and skill you bring to every appointment. Our patients trust us because of you.

If you've ever left a cleaning feeling genuinely cared for — that's the hygienist effect. And we think that deserves a week of recognition.

Come See Us This April

Whether you're due for a cleaning or haven't been in a while, April is a great time to book. Our hygiene team is fully committed to making your appointment feel less like a chore and more like a genuine health investment.
