ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area after my parents immigrated from the Caribbean in the late 70's. Currently I call Durham Region home.
Armed with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a major in Information Technology I started my career in 2005 as a Business Systems Analyst. In this role I transformed cluttered business requirements into streamlined processes using technology and automation.
When my career pivoted in 2012, I took on the Commercial Real Estate industry by using my gifts of management, organization, and process improvement. My experience in managing a diverse campus of buildings to running a province-wide planning program has sharpened my eye for finding efficiencies and opportunities where others see obstacles.
I am a mother and a wife who believes everyone can live in a space that is pleasing to the senses and reflects the heart of those who live there. Creating an environment of elegance, form and function by decluttering, categorizing and organizing is why I created Form and Function by Kira. I am excited to streamline your lifestyle and create a space customized for how you use it.
I sincerely believe form is found when space is made functional.

What happens when a garage finally matches the life being lived inside the home?
For many empty nesters in Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area, the garage becomes the last space waiting for a plan. This case study shows how a careful, step-by-step garage organizing process—combined with custom solutions—can completely change how a home functions, just in time for winter.
By November, many homeowners in Durham begin to feel the pressure of another Canadian winter approaching. Snow, ice, freezing mornings—and the familiar frustration of cars parked on the driveway because the garage simply can’t be used for what it was designed for.
For my clients in Whitby, a successful couple and proud empty nesters, this feeling was amplified. They had just completed a full gut renovation of their home. Every interior space had been thoughtfully redesigned, refreshed, and elevated—yet the garage told a very different story.
It had quietly become the holding zone for everything that didn’t yet have a plan.
Years of family life, combined with the by products of a major renovation, had left the garage packed with tools, materials, seasonal items, and long-forgotten belongings. None of it was unusable—but none of it was working.
The space felt heavy.
More importantly, it wasn’t supporting how they wanted to live now. With their children grown and winter approaching, they were ready for a garage that could:
Comfortably store both vehicles—a pickup truck and a luxury sedan
Protect those vehicles from harsh winter weather
Feel calm, organized, and intentional
Be easy to maintain long-term
They made a clear decision: this would be the winter they reclaimed their garage.
The foundation of this project was care—not speed.
We began with a thorough, highly intentional purging process. This wasn’t about clearing space as quickly as possible; it was about honoring what had served them in the past while making thoughtful decisions about what deserved a place moving forward.
Each category was handled with purpose:
Renovation leftovers were assessed realistically—kept only if there was a true plan for future use
Duplicates and outdated items were released
Seasonal and hobby-related items were grouped and refined
Throughout this process, we talked through why certain items stayed and where they would eventually live. That clarity is what prevents clutter from returning.
Anything that remained after the purge was not simply boxed up and moved out of the way.
Instead, items were:
Sorted by category
Placed into carefully selected bins
Pre-organized exactly as they would live in the finished garage
Those bins were then moved into a storage pod located on the driveway.
This step was critical. By organizing before storing, we ensured that when it came time to move everything back in, there would be no guesswork, no chaos, and no re-handling of items. The garage was completely cleared, but the project remained calm and controlled.
With the garage fully emptied, my clients were able to move forward with epoxy flooring—creating a clean, durable base that instantly elevated the space.
At the same time, I connected them with a trusted general contractor we regularly partner with. Together, we approached the next phase with precision.
Rather than installing generic shelving, the contractor built custom shelving designed specifically around the bins we had already selected. This ensured:
A seamless fit
Maximum use of vertical space
A storage system that felt built-in, not added on
This level of coordination is where function meets longevity.
Once the epoxy floors were cured and the custom shelving installed, we returned for the final phase.
Because everything had already been organized and categorized, the install process was smooth and efficient:
Bins were removed from the pod and placed directly into their designated zones
Every category had a clearly defined home
Items were labeled for easy identification
Bikes and larger equipment were mounted on wall systems to keep floors clear
Nothing was rushed. Every placement was intentional.
When the project was complete, the transformation was undeniable.
The garage now comfortably houses both vehicles—protected from snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. There is space to move, space to breathe, and space to maintain order without effort.
When my client stepped into the finished garage, she was overwhelmed with emotion. Tears filled her eyes—not because of shelves or bins, but because of what the space represented.
Relief.
Completion.
A sense that this chapter of their home—and their life—was finally aligned.
For empty nesters, organizing is rarely just about storage. It’s about redefining how a home supports the life being lived now—not the one that has passed.
This Whitby garage transformation is a reminder that with the right process, the right partners, and genuine care, even the most overlooked spaces can become sources of pride and ease.

If you’re an empty nester who is tired of parking on the driveway, overwhelmed by years of accumulation, or planning upgrades like epoxy flooring or custom shelving, a thoughtful organizing plan makes all the difference.
My work focuses on:
Careful purging without pressure
Planning storage before installing systems
Coordinating with trusted contractors
Creating garages that are functional, calm, and easy to maintain—especially for Canadian winters.
