Flood and Mould Restoration After Balcony Water Ingress in Darlinghurst NSW

March 04, 20262 min read

Following heavy rainfall during a storm, the client observed water entering the property from through a ceiling below a terrace balcony. This event caused flooding into the room before continuing through another level of the property to the kitchen on the lower level. Our team attended the property to carry out flood and mould restoration works.

Inspection Findings

Inspection of the affected upper-level room identified water staining and bubbling paint to the ceiling, along with mould growth within the ceiling cavity, visible through the manhole opening. The timber flooring within the room also showed signs of cupping, consistent with moisture exposure from flooding.

Our Mould Restoration Process

Restoration works included the removal of mould affected ceiling materials and insulation in line with IICRC restoration standards. Due to the presence of mould within the ceiling cavity, an Air Filtration Device (AFD) was operated throughout removal works to maintain safe air quality. H-Class and HEPA vacuuming were used alongside power tools and to clean surrounding surfaces, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.

A mould treatment was applied within the ceiling cavity to address any residual contamination. To support drying the area correctly, two air movers and one dehumidifier were installed to assist with moisture reduction and drying of the affected timber flooring. All removed materials were safely bagged and disposed of in accordance with industry requirements.

Why This Matters

Balcony leaks can allow significant volumes of water to travel through ceilings and flooring, often causing hidden damage that may not be immediately visible. Prompt removal of damaged materials, mould control, and controlled drying are essential to prevent ongoing structural issues and indoor air quality concerns.
