Do Not Forget the Lord

(Deuteronomy 4 Daily Devotion)

“Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen…”

As Moses continues speaking to Israel, his tone changes.

It becomes more urgent.

More personal.

More intentional.

Because now, he is not just reminding them of the journey—

He is warning them about the future.

“Do not forget.”

Israel had seen miracles.

The Red Sea.

Provision in the wilderness.

Victory over enemies.

The voice of God at Mount Sinai.

They had experienced what other nations had never seen.

But Moses understood something important.

It is possible to experience God… and still forget Him.

Not immediately.

But gradually.

Through distraction.

Through comfort.

Through success.

Through time.

That is why Moses told them:

Take heed.

Guard your heart.

Remember what you have seen.

Teach it to your children.

Because forgetting God does not happen all at once.

It happens slowly—

When remembrance is neglected.

Deuteronomy 4 is not just about rules.

It is about relationship.

God was calling His people to stay connected to Him.

To remember His works.

To live according to His word.

Because obedience is not just about following commands—

It is about staying aligned with the One who gave them.

This teaches us something powerful today.

We may not have stood at Mount Sinai—

But we have our own moments with God.

Answered prayers.

Provision.

Breakthroughs.

Guidance.

And the danger is not that God disappears—

It is that we forget what He has done.

That is why remembering is spiritual discipline.

Because when we remember—

We remain faithful.

But remembering keeps you grounded.
