How to Look Natural in Wedding Photos: 3 Essential Tips for Grooms

Let’s be honest: most grooms don't spend their free time practicing poses in front of a mirror. When the wedding day arrives and a professional camera is pointed at you, it’s completely normal to feel a bit like a "statue"—stiff, awkward, and not knowing what to do with your hands.
As a wedding photographer working in Warsaw and Dubai, my goal is to make sure you don't just look good, but that you actually feel like yourself. You don’t need to be a professional model to get iconic shots. You just need these 3 simple tricks to break the tension.
1. Give Your Hands a Job
The biggest reason for "photo-stiffness" is not knowing where to put your hands. When your hands are just hanging by your sides, you feel vulnerable and tense.
The Move: Occupy your hands with something natural. Adjust your cufflinks, touch your watch, fix your tie, or simply put one hand in your pocket (keep the thumb out for a more stylish look).
Why it works: When your hands are busy, your shoulders naturally drop and your posture relaxes. It turns a "pose" into an "action."
2. Embrace Movement (Don't Just Stand There)
Static poses can often feel forced. The best shots happen when there is life and flow. Whether we are shooting in the historic streets of Warsaw Old Town or against the modern skyline of Dubai Marina, I always encourage movement.
The Move: Take a slow walk toward the camera, look away and then back, or simply shift your weight from one leg to the other.
Why it works: Movement distracts your brain from the camera. It creates a "candid" look, making the photos feel like a caught moment rather than a staged setup.
3. Focus on Her, Not the Camera
You aren't at a photoshoot alone; you are there with the person you love. The most beautiful portraits of a groom are often the ones where he isn't even looking at the lens.
The Move: Whisper something to your bride, fix her hair, or lead her by the hand. Focus 100% of your attention on her.
Why it works: Your expression changes instantly when you interact with your partner. Your smile becomes genuine, your eyes soften, and that "statue" disappears, replaced by a man in love.
