Fear vs Relationship with God

(Deuteronomy 5 Study)

“And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory… Now therefore why should we die?… If we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then we shall die.”
Deuteronomy 5:24–25 (KJV)

================================

When God spoke to Israel at Mount Sinai, the people experienced something overwhelming.

Fire.

Thunder.

Power.

The presence of God.

And their response was immediate.

Fear.

They stepped back.

They told Moses:

“You speak to us… but let not God speak to us directly.”

They were afraid to get close.

This moment reveals something important.

They experienced God’s power—
But they struggled with His presence.

And this created distance.

Not because God wanted separation—

But because they responded with fear instead of relationship.

This is where the tension begins.

Because there are two ways people approach God:

Fear-based faith
And
Relationship-based faith

Fear-based faith says:

“I obey because I’m afraid of punishment.”
“I keep distance because God is overwhelming.”
“I follow, but I don’t feel close.”

Relationship-based faith says:

“I obey because I trust Him.”
“I draw near because I know His heart.”
“I follow because I love Him.”

Israel chose distance.

God desired closeness.

And this reveals something powerful.

God’s goal is not to push you away—
It is to draw you near.

Yes, God is powerful.

Yes, He is holy.

Yes, He is to be respected.

But He is also relational.

He desires connection.

Not just obedience.

Because fear can make you follow—

But only relationship will make you stay.

This applies directly to us today.

Many people believe in God.

But they keep Him at a distance.

They pray when needed.

They follow when convenient.

But they don’t pursue closeness.

Why?

Because deep down—

They still see God through fear instead of relationship.

But here’s the truth.

God already made the first move.

He revealed Himself.

He spoke.

He reached out.

And the invitation still stands.

Come closer.

Not in fear—

But in relationship.

Step by Step: Moving from Fear to Relationship

Recognize your view of God
Do you see Him as distant or personal?

Shift from fear to trust
God’s heart is for you, not against you.

Pursue connection daily
Relationship grows through time.

Approach God with confidence
He invites you closer.

Stay rooted in love
Love transforms obedience.

Fear may start your journey—

But relationship sustains it.

PRAYER

Lord, help me move beyond fear and grow in relationship with You.
Teach me to trust Your heart and draw closer daily.
Remove anything that keeps me distant from You.
Let my faith be rooted in love and connection.
Amen.

Inday Sara: Tested by Trials, Standing for the Nation

Darryl Yap’s recent post about Vice President Sara Duterte struck a chord online, amassing thousands of comments and shares. His words painted a portrait of resilience: “Nagtitiwala, tumulong, tinraydor, siniraan, patuloy na pinahihirapan.”

For her supporters, Sara Duterte is not just a political figure — she is a daughter honoring her father’s legacy, and a leader standing up for the country amidst criticism and betrayal.

The post frames her as a defender of the nation, ready to battle what Yap describes as the “pulang halimaw na umuuto ng rosas,” a direct jab at political rivals. This strong imagery highlights how polarized Philippine politics has become — where allegiances, narratives, and symbols are constantly weaponized.

But beyond the rhetoric lies the bigger question: Can Sara Duterte truly rise above political attacks and prove herself as a unifying leader, or will she remain trapped in the cycle of partisan battles?

As the political landscape heats up, one thing remains clear — Sara Duterte continues to be a central figure in shaping the nation’s political future.

💭 What’s your take? Is Sara Duterte the resilient leader her supporters believe her to be — or just another political personality caught in the storm?
