Braley Care Homes was created from a father and son’s passion for quality assisted living in a home-like environment, spawned from their experience in the mental health field.
Chris and Dean Braley opened Braley Care Homes on March 29, 2005. Braley Care Homes expanded into Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and, memory care services in 2008. Chris Braley is the owner and administrator of Braley Care Homes and it remains the only free-standing Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and memory care facility in West Virginia. Our facility was built with dementia care in mind and is the ideal environment for someone with this disease. It is locked 24 hours per day and has a beautiful outdoor courtyard with a pastoral view, which is secure at all times.
Our memory care activities and behavior programming is geared toward meeting each individual’s needs, which helps keep their anxiety level down and reduces the risk of behavior issues.
Chris Braley has a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work and is an LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker). Chris shares, “dementia is not only in my professional life, but also in my personal life. My grandmother and father suffered from dementia, so I know the pain the families go through as they watch helplessly as their love one suffers. Our goal at Braley Care Homes is to tap into each resident’s unique qualities and help bring a calmness to both their life and their family’s life.

Braley Care Homes provide professional care in a
home-like environment, which is crucial to preserving our residents’ dignity and self-worth. We believe this can best be done in smaller environments, rather than large facilities. The home setting is the environment we choose to care for our loved ones. They can surround themselves with pictures and furniture for that complete home feeling. Our intimate, home-like atmosphere allows for individualized care and lasting relationships.

I have only great memories of the great care my husband received. Never heard an unkind word to anyone there. This care home facility is wonderful. Thank you, Mr. Braley, for all you do and your staff. God's blessing continue to be with you all.
Brenda B. L.
I’ve worked there and I’ve seen how the residents are treated. Staff love their jobs and you can tell. Owner is great with residents too. They do a wide variety of activities and even a pet dog.

Caring Is Our Business
In the landscape of dementia care, personalized approaches have emerged as a beacon of hope and efficacy, tailoring care plans to meet the unique needs and preferences of each individual. The journey through dementia is profoundly personal, influenced by factors ranging from cultural background to individual life experiences. Recognizing this diversity, personalized care planning aims to provide not just medical support but also emotional and social enrichment, enhancing the quality of life for both patients and their caregivers. By customizing care plans, healthcare providers can address specific challenges such as communication barriers or behavioral changes with targeted interventions. This approach fosters a deeper understanding of the individual’s history, interests, and values, thereby promoting a sense of dignity and autonomy. In an era where compassionate care is paramount, personalized approaches to dementia care planning represent a paradigm shift towards holistic and individualized support, ensuring that each person’s journey with dementia is navigated with respect, empathy, and tailored expertise.
In recent years, advancements in technology have revolutionized many aspects of healthcare, including the care and management of individuals with dementia. One area where technology has made significant strides is in supporting personalized care plans for dementia patients. These innovative tools not only assist caregivers and healthcare professionals in delivering tailored care but also enhance the quality of life for individuals living with dementia. In this article, we'll explore eight ways technology can be effectively utilized to support personalized care for dementia patients.
Technology-enabled remote monitoring and sensor systems can provide valuable insights into a patient's daily activities and health status. Sensors placed in the home can track movement patterns, sleep cycles, and even detect falls, alerting caregivers to potential issues promptly. This data helps in adjusting care plans based on real-time information, ensuring that interventions are timely and appropriate.
Managing medications can be complex for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Medication management apps can help by providing reminders for medication schedules, dosage instructions, and alerts for refills. Some apps can also sync with healthcare providers, allowing for real-time updates and adjustments to medication plans as needed.
Telehealth platforms enable healthcare professionals to conduct virtual consultations with dementia patients and their caregivers. This technology facilitates easier access to specialist advice, therapy sessions, and follow-up appointments, reducing the need for in-person visits that may be challenging for individuals with dementia.
There are numerous apps designed specifically to provide cognitive stimulation and therapy for individuals with dementia. These apps offer activities such as memory games, puzzles, and reminiscence therapy exercises tailored to the individual's cognitive abilities and preferences. Regular use of these apps can help maintain cognitive function and improve overall well-being.
GPS tracking devices are invaluable for ensuring the safety and security of individuals with dementia who may wander or become disoriented. Wearable GPS devices or those embedded in smartphones can provide real-time location information to caregivers, allowing them to quickly locate and retrieve the individual if they stray from a safe area.
Caring for a loved one with dementia is a journey that requires compassion, dedication, and a deep understanding of the individual's unique needs. Family members and caregivers play a crucial role in providing personalized care that enhances the quality of life for individuals living with dementia. In this article, we'll explore eight key ways in which family and caregivers contribute to personalized care for dementia patients.
Family members and caregivers often serve as primary sources of emotional support for individuals with dementia. Establishing trust through consistent and compassionate care helps create a nurturing environment where the individual feels safe and understood. Emotional support can significantly impact the individual's overall well-being and ability to cope with the challenges of dementia.
Family members possess valuable insights into the personal history, preferences, and interests of their loved one with dementia. Sharing this information with healthcare professionals and caregivers helps create personalized care plans that are tailored to the individual's background and life experiences. Understanding the person behind the disease fosters a holistic approach to care.
Effective communication and collaboration between family caregivers and healthcare professionals are essential for personalized care. Family members can provide valuable observations about changes in behavior, symptoms, and daily routines that can inform medical assessments and treatment plans. Working together ensures that care strategies are aligned with the individual's specific needs and goals.
Family caregivers often assist with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation, based on the individual's abilities and preferences. They may adapt routines and provide encouragement to promote independence while ensuring safety and comfort. Understanding the individual's capabilities and limitations helps family caregivers provide supportive care that maintains dignity and autonomy.
Maintaining a familiar and supportive environment is crucial for individuals with dementia. Family caregivers can personalize living spaces by incorporating familiar objects, photographs, and meaningful decorations that evoke positive memories and reduce anxiety. Creating a comforting environment enhances emotional well-being and promotes a sense of security for the individual.
Understanding an individual's life history is fundamental to providing personalized care for those with dementia. Each person's past experiences, preferences, and relationships shape who they are and how they respond to care. By incorporating this life history into care planning, caregivers and healthcare professionals can create environments that are supportive, familiar, and meaningful to the individual.
Personal Preferences and Routines: Knowledge of past preferences in food, activities, and daily routines helps in structuring a care plan that promotes comfort and engagement.

Communication Styles and Habits: Understanding how the individual communicated in the past, including language preferences, expressions, and gestures, facilitates effective communication and reduces frustration.
Cultural and Religious Background: Knowledge of cultural practices, traditions, and religious beliefs helps in respecting and integrating these aspects into daily care routines and activities.
