Braley Care Homes was created from a father and son’s passion for quality assisted living in a home-like environment, spawned from their experience in the mental health field.
Chris and Dean Braley opened Braley Care Homes on March 29, 2005. Braley Care Homes expanded into Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and, memory care services in 2008. Chris Braley is the owner and administrator of Braley Care Homes and it remains the only free-standing Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and memory care facility in West Virginia. Our facility was built with dementia care in mind and is the ideal environment for someone with this disease. It is locked 24 hours per day and has a beautiful outdoor courtyard with a pastoral view, which is secure at all times.
Our memory care activities and behavior programming is geared toward meeting each individual’s needs, which helps keep their anxiety level down and reduces the risk of behavior issues.
Chris Braley has a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work and is an LICSW (licensed independent clinical social worker). Chris shares, “dementia is not only in my professional life, but also in my personal life. My grandmother and father suffered from dementia, so I know the pain the families go through as they watch helplessly as their love one suffers. Our goal at Braley Care Homes is to tap into each resident’s unique qualities and help bring a calmness to both their life and their family’s life.

Braley Care Homes provide professional care in a
home-like environment, which is crucial to preserving our residents’ dignity and self-worth. We believe this can best be done in smaller environments, rather than large facilities. The home setting is the environment we choose to care for our loved ones. They can surround themselves with pictures and furniture for that complete home feeling. Our intimate, home-like atmosphere allows for individualized care and lasting relationships.

I have only great memories of the great care my husband received. Never heard an unkind word to anyone there. This care home facility is wonderful. Thank you, Mr. Braley, for all you do and your staff. God's blessing continue to be with you all.

I’ve worked there and I’ve seen how the residents are treated. Staff love their jobs and you can tell. Owner is great with residents too. They do a wide variety of activities and even a pet dog.

Caring Is Our Business
Welcome to our latest blog post exploring the cutting-edge innovations transforming memory care and, consequently, enhancing the quality of life for individuals facing cognitive challenges. In recent years, there has been a remarkable surge in the development of technologies and approaches aimed at supporting those living with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and other forms of cognitive impairment. From advanced sensory environments to personalized digital interventions, the landscape of memory care is undergoing a profound evolution, offering new hope and opportunities for both patients and caregivers alike. In this article, we'll delve into some of the most promising innovations in memory care, highlighting how they are reshaping the way we understand and address the needs of individuals with memory-related conditions. Whether it's leveraging artificial intelligence to provide personalized care plans or designing dementia-friendly communities that prioritize safety and autonomy, these innovations represent a significant stride towards fostering dignity, independence, and overall well-being for those navigating the complexities of memory loss. Join us on this journey as we explore the frontier of memory care innovation and its transformative impact on the lives of millions around the world.
In the realm of memory care, where traditional methods often fall short in engaging patients and improving their quality of life, virtual reality (VR) therapy emerges as a promising innovation. VR technology transports individuals to immersive digital environments, offering stimulating experiences that can evoke memories, reduce anxiety, and enhance cognitive function. Let's delve into how VR therapy is revolutionizing memory care and providing a new avenue for improving the well-being of individuals with cognitive impairments.
Therapy Virtual reality therapy involves using headsets and immersive digital environments to provide therapeutic experiences for individuals with memory impairments. By simulating realistic scenarios or nostalgic settings, VR therapy aims to engage patients' senses and stimulate cognitive function in ways that traditional therapies cannot.
One of the remarkable aspects of VR therapy is its ability to evoke positive memories in individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. By recreating familiar environments, such as childhood homes or favorite vacation spots, VR experiences can trigger reminiscence and emotional connections, fostering a sense of comfort and well-being.
Many memory care patients experience agitation and anxiety, particularly in unfamiliar or overstimulating environments. VR therapy offers a controlled and customizable alternative, allowing patients to explore calming scenes like serene nature settings or peaceful gardens, effectively reducing stress levels and promoting relaxation.
Isn't just about providing pleasant experiences; it's also a tool for cognitive stimulation and rehabilitation. Interactive VR games and exercises can challenge memory, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills, helping to maintain cognitive function and slow the progression of cognitive decline.
Care facilities often struggle to provide meaningful social interactions for residents. VR therapy introduces opportunities for group activities and shared experiences, fostering camaraderie and social engagement among patients as they explore virtual worlds together or reminisce about past experiences.
In the realm of memory care, where traditional approaches often focus solely on cognitive exercises, sensory stimulation emerges as a powerful and holistic intervention. Harnessing the power of the senses—sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste—sensory stimulation techniques offer a unique way to engage individuals with memory impairments, evoke positive emotions, and enhance their overall quality of life. Let's explore how sensory stimulation is revolutionizing memory care and providing a multi-sensory approach to supporting individuals with cognitive challenges.
Stimulation involves the use of various sensory experiences to engage individuals and promote well-being. These experiences can range from simple activities like listening to music or smelling familiar scents to more complex interventions such as multi-sensory rooms equipped with specialized equipment to stimulate different senses simultaneously.
Each of the five senses plays a vital role in how we perceive and interact with the world. Sensory stimulation activities aim to activate these senses in ways that are enjoyable and meaningful for individuals with memory impairments. For example, tactile stimulation through textured objects or massage can promote relaxation and reduce anxiety, while visual stimulation through colorful artwork or nature scenes can evoke feelings of calmness and joy.
The Power of Scents Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils and aromatic compounds to promote physical and emotional well-being. Certain scents, such as lavender or citrus, have been shown to have calming or uplifting effects, making them particularly beneficial for individuals with memory impairments who may experience anxiety or agitation.
Melodies That Soothe the Soul Music has a profound impact on mood, memory, and cognition. Music therapy interventions, such as listening to familiar songs or participating in group singing sessions, can evoke memories, reduce stress, and improve overall emotional well-being for memory care patients.
Exploring Texture and Touch The sense of touch can be a powerful tool for sensory stimulation. Providing opportunities for individuals to engage in tactile experiences, such as handling sensory balls, fabrics of different textures, or gardening activities, can promote sensory awareness, stimulate neural pathways, and enhance fine motor skills.
Music has an extraordinary ability to transcend time and unlock memories. In memory care, leveraging this power of melodies can significantly impact the well-being of individuals with cognitive impairments. Let's explore the key points highlighting the profound influence of music on memory and cognition.
Emotional Connection: Music evokes emotions and memories, even in individuals with advanced memory loss, fostering a sense of connection and joy.
Cognitive Stimulation: Engaging with music stimulates various areas of the brain, cognitive function and potentially slowing cognitive decline.
Promoting Therapeutic Applications: Music therapy interventions, such as personalized playlists and group sing-alongs, can alleviate agitation, anxiety, and depression in memory care patients.
Enhanced Quality of Life: By providing comfort, reducing stress, and promoting social interaction, music significantly enhances the overall quality of life for individuals in memory care.
