Malacañang has formally called on individuals involved in corruption linked to flood control projects to return their illegal kickbacks to the government, following the reported voluntary return of at least ₱300 million in illicit funds.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro described the development as historic, noting that it marks one of the rare instances in Philippine history where a significant amount of stolen public funds was voluntarily returned.

“This is for the people,” Castro emphasized, urging others implicated in similar schemes to follow suit and return what was taken.

According to Malacañang, the recovered funds are expected to be redirected toward public welfare and government services, reinforcing the administration’s position that accountability is not only legal—but moral.

The call also sends a broader signal:
corruption may hide for years, but restitution eventually knocks.

While investigations and prosecutions continue, the Palace made clear that returning stolen funds does not erase liability—but it does restore what rightfully belongs to the Filipino people.
