We are providing the opportunity to teach the same strategies and tactics that put athletes on the podium, and win world championships to help executives win in the boardroom and in life. Nick Mayhgh had a goal of transforming himself from a soccer star to running in the paralympic games. With no track experience, we set out on a journey to redefine his identity and make the team. After two years of grueling training, not only did he make the USA team, he set a National Record at trials. In Tokyo he went all out, hitting PRs in every race and setting Two World Records. Nick capped off his trip in Tokyo coming home with Three Gold Medals and One Silver.
This is probably the most challenging logistics in Olympic history, with no fans and so many restrictions for training and preparing for competition. Jason Rogers held strong with his Maturity and the experience of three Olympics under his belt. He entered the season as the 117th ranked sprinter. Jason finished 6th in the semi final of the 100m and ended the season as the 17th ranked sprinter in the world.
Nothing sets the stage for professional or Olympic athletes than getting out of their element and into an environment of greatness. A three-day, private event at Muhammand Ali’s training camp in Pennsylvania enhanced the pursuit of greatness and the finding of their “Telos.” These athletes trained in the same space as one of the greatest athletes of all time. They slept in the same cabins as the champs training partners, and ate at the same kitchen table as the Heavyweight champion of the world as he prepped for the most grueling fights of his life.
A project to find the next fastest man in the world. Coach Kavanaugh was brought in to identify young athletes in Kingston, Jamaica while putting them through a full professional track training camp. Accompanied by Travis Mash, Phil Tremplay and aspiring coaches, they developed elite coaching plans for these athletes. The event was highlighted by watching the current active fastest man in the world, Yohan Blake, train.

First, as an expert for the rehab panel alongside Dr. David Leaf, Dr. Eric Serrano and Dr. Ken Kenakin with a specific focus on the details of the foot and its role in sport. When an eight-year-old, whose little sister has just been diagnosed with cancer, comes to you and asks for your help raising money and awareness in support of pediatric cancer research, you jump in and help out. Joy Veazy wanted to support the families, like hers, affected by childhood cancer. It was also a way for her to get through this time with her sister. She wanted to do something fun that her friends and community could support. This was the beginning of Hope Faster, a Speed School event that raises thousands of dollars every year that goes directly into pediatric cancer research.
For over a decade, The Sport & Speed Institute has been the premier sports performance facility in the DMV. Sending hundreds of athletes to compete at the college level. SSI built a reputation for developing athletes from the ground up. Looking back, there have been athletes that have trained with us since their early years (8-12 years old.) We have since seen them get drafted in the MLB, NHL and the First round of the NFL, even representing us on the global stage in golf, tennis and many other areas.
The camp that changed college recruiting for hundreds of high school athletes each year. Established with the support of David Ross and the vision of Coach Kavanugh to help college coaches identify talent and give high school athletes exposure. The camp changed the recruiting process forever. Over the years, coaches from OSU, VT, UNC, Duke, Michigan, UVA, Georgetown and hundreds of others were involved.
Being a guest speaker at one of the most highly recognized coaching conferences for football is a huge honor. Even greater, was being asked to return for over 10 years. I presented on Speed, Strength, Building a winning culture and identifying a model for success. Sharing the stage with Nick Saban, Daboo Sweeney, Butch Davis and others requires you to keep delivering value.
A call from a friend, who I trained with, as we were both preparing for our seasons, was the unexpected start.
He said “Kavanaugh you are training me. I Trust You” Bottom line, he got screwed by his trainer and his agent. That’s how I fell into my coaching journey. It just so happened that my friend was a professional athlete.
Dorren Mercer, Bobby Distefano, Ronnie Antelo, Don McNeal, Tony Nathan, and many others, all impacted my process before I even knew I was on a journey to become a Coach. Looking back at the mistakes I made drives me crazy, but they were well worth the experience I gained. As an Athlete I competed in five sports. I won player of the year, was named an All-American and was part of winning a national championship. All of these experiences shaped my belief that Sport Can Change Lives.
