General Questions

What is integrative medicine?

Integrative medicine combines conventional medical treatments with evidence-based complementary therapies like nutrition, Ayurveda, acupuncture, and mind-body practices. Unlike conventional medicine that often focuses on treating symptoms, integrative medicine addresses the root causes of illness by considering your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing as interconnected parts of your overall health.

What conditions do you treat at Sanjevani?

We treat a wide range of chronic and acute conditions including digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, metabolic issues, cardiovascular concerns, chronic pain, and inflammatory conditions. We also provide preventive care and wellness optimization for those seeking to maintain optimal health.

Is Sanjevani suitable for someone who's never tried integrative medicine?

Absolutely! Many of our patients are new to integrative medicine. We take time to educate you about our approach, answer your questions, and create a treatment plan that feels comfortable and appropriate for your needs. We meet you where you are and work at a pace that suits you.

Can I continue seeing my regular doctor while working with Sanjevani?

Yes! We encourage collaborative care and work alongside your existing healthcare providers. We can coordinate with your primary care physician or specialists to ensure comprehensive, integrated care. We'll share relevant information (with your permission) to support your overall health management.

Services & Treatments

Services & Treatments

What happens during a first consultation?

Your first consultation typically lasts 60-90 minutes. We'll review your complete health history, current concerns, lifestyle, diet, stress levels, and health goals. Dr. Pai or one of our practitioners will conduct an assessment including pulse diagnosis, tongue examination (if doing Ayurvedic assessment), and may recommend functional medicine testing. You'll leave with initial recommendations and a personalized treatment plan.

What is Panchakarma and how long does it take?

Panchakarma is a traditional Ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation program. A complete program typically runs 5-21 days depending on your needs and goals. It includes three phases: preparation (oil massage and steam therapy), main cleansing (therapeutic procedures), and rejuvenation (nourishing practices). We'll customize the program length and intensity based on your constitution and health objectives.

What is flotation therapy and who is it good for?

Flotation therapy (REST Pod) involves floating in body-temperature water saturated with Epsom salt in a sensory-reduced environment. It's excellent for stress relief, chronic pain, anxiety, sleep issues, muscle recovery, and creative enhancement. Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes. It's safe for most people, though we don't recommend it during pregnancy or for those with certain medical conditions.

Do you offer nutritional counseling without medical treatment?

Yes! Maureen Sutton, our certified nutritionist, offers standalone nutritional counseling and cooking programs. These sessions focus on personalized meal planning, healthy eating strategies, cooking skills, and lifestyle nutrition education. You don't need to be a medical patient to benefit from our nutrition services.

What is PEMF therapy and what does it treat?

PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) therapy uses electromagnetic waves to stimulate cellular healing and improve circulation. It's FDA-approved and effective for chronic pain, inflammation, bone healing, depression, and recovery from injury or surgery. Sessions are non-invasive, painless, and typically last 30-60 minutes. Many patients notice improvements after just a few sessions.

Appointments & Scheduling

Appointments & Scheduling

How do I schedule my first appointment?

You can schedule by calling us at (505) 821-6300, emailing [email protected], or using our online contact form. We recommend starting with a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs and determine which services would be most beneficial for you.

What are your hours of operation?

We're open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We're closed on Sundays. We offer flexible appointment times to accommodate various schedules, including some early morning and evening slots.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. We understand emergencies happen—please call us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.

How long are typical appointments?

Initial consultations are 60-90 minutes. Follow-up appointments typically last 30-45 minutes. Bodywork sessions range from 60-90 minutes. Flotation therapy sessions are 60-90 minutes. Cooking classes and workshops vary from 2-4 hours depending on the program.

Pricing & Insurance

Pricing & Insurance

Do you accept insurance?

While we don't bill insurance directly, we can provide you with detailed receipts and documentation (superbills) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Many of our patients receive partial or full reimbursement, especially if you have a PPO plan or a Health Savings Account (HSA).

How much does a consultation cost?

Initial consultations typically range from $200-$400 depending on the type and length of visit. Follow-up appointments are generally $100-$200. We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your needs and provide more specific pricing information based on your situation.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, we understand that wellness is an investment. We offer flexible payment plans for comprehensive treatment programs like Panchakarma. We also accept HSA and FSA cards. Contact our office to discuss payment options that work for your budget.

Are supplements and herbs included in treatment cost?

Consultation fees cover the assessment and treatment plan only. Recommended supplements, herbs, and products are purchased separately through our online store or pharmacy partners. We only recommend high-quality, evidence-based products that we trust and use ourselves.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover), HSA cards, and FSA cards. Payment is due at the time of service unless you've arranged a payment plan with our office in advance.

Preparation & What to Expect

Preparation & What to Expect

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring a list of current medications and supplements, any recent lab results or medical records, a list of your health concerns and questions, and your insurance card (if you plan to submit for reimbursement). We'll send you intake forms to complete before your visit.

Should I fast before my appointment?

For a regular consultation, no fasting is required. Eat normally. However, if blood work or specific tests are ordered, we may ask you to fast for 8-12 hours before testing. We'll provide specific instructions when scheduling any tests that require fasting.

What should I wear to bodywork or massage appointments?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. For massage sessions, you'll be provided with draping for modesty—you undress to your comfort level. For Ayurvedic treatments involving oil, we recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting oil on, or we can provide disposable garments.

How should I prepare for flotation therapy?

Avoid caffeine 4 hours before your session. Don't shave on the day of floating (salt can sting). Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before. Remove contact lenses. We provide everything you need: towels, earplugs, shampoo, and body wash. Arrive 15 minutes early for first-time floaters to receive orientation.

How long before I see results from treatment?

Results vary depending on your condition and treatment plan. Some patients notice improvements within days, while chronic conditions may take weeks or months to resolve. We typically reassess progress every 4-6 weeks and adjust your treatment plan accordingly. Consistency with recommendations is key to achieving optimal results.

Are your treatments safe during pregnancy?

Many of our services can be safely modified for pregnancy, including prenatal massage, gentle yoga, certain nutritional counseling, and modified herbal protocols. However, some treatments like Panchakarma and flotation therapy are not recommended during pregnancy. Always inform us if you're pregnant or trying to conceive so we can tailor treatments appropriately.
