Select your tasks, estimate your hours, and see what businesses in your industry typically save.

Why This Calculator is Different?

Built on real data, not guesswork

Australian and New Zealand businesses typically save 60-75% on labour costs when moving remote-capable tasks offshore.* Our calculator estimates what that could mean for your business, using two layers of real data rather than generic assumptions.

Most offshore calculators ask for a salary figure, multiply by a standard rate, and call it a day. They are generic because they do not have anything better.

We do.

Our calculator combines industry-specific savings percentages drawn from real Outrun client data with estimated dollar savings calculated from publicly available salary benchmarks (Australian Bureau of Statistics, Stats NZ, Hays Salary Guide, Robert Half Salary Guide). The savings percentages reflect what businesses in your industry have actually achieved. The dollar estimate translates that percentage into an annual figure you can put in front of your team or your board.

This is still an estimate. Your actual situation will vary based on current team costs, task complexity, and how implementation is structured. But it is a credible starting point, grounded in real data rather than guesswork.

*Savings based on comparison of Outrun versus local hiring costs for the same role.

Three Trust Elements

90,000+ Activity-Level Data Points

Our methodology is informed by 90,000+ activity-level data points, with 5,000 new data points collected every month. This data continuously improves how we equip, train, and support offshore staff. The industry savings percentages in this calculator reflect what our clients actually experience across multiple sectors.

Industry-Specific Benchmarks

An accounting firm's cost profile is different from an e-commerce business. Our calculator uses industry-specific savings data because a single generic figure is not useful. When the data says professional services firms typically save 68%, that figure comes from real professional services engagements.

Methodology from 400+ Concurrent Projects

Our approach was systematised across 9,000+ projects over Zeald's 25-year history of managing 400+ concurrent engagements. The patterns we have identified, including which activities translate well offshore, which workflows benefit most, and where the real savings sit, come from implementation experience, not theory.

How Offshore Staffing Costs Compare

The cost difference between local and offshore staffing goes beyond base salary. When you factor in superannuation (12% in Australia), KiwiSaver (3-4% in New Zealand), payroll tax, leave loading, WorkCover/ACC, and overhead, the fully loaded cost of a local employee is significantly higher than the headline salary. Here is how typical costs compare for common task categories.

Task Category Typical AU Loaded Cost (per hour) Typical Offshore Cost (per hour) Indicative Savings
Administration & support $42–$50 AUD $10–$15 AUD 65–75%
Finance & bookkeeping $50–$62 AUD $12–$18 AUD 65–75%
Customer service $38–$46 AUD $9–$14 AUD 63–70%
Marketing support $46–$58 AUD $11–$16 AUD 65–75%

Australian loaded costs include base salary, 12% superannuation, payroll tax, WorkCover, and overhead allowance. Sourced from ABS average earnings data and Fair Work benchmarks. Offshore costs reflect Outrun's pricing model inclusive of service fees. For NZ equivalents, typical loaded costs are 5-10% lower. Savings based on comparison of Outrun versus local hiring costs for the same role.

How this calculator works

Four steps. About two minutes. No signup required.

1

Select your industry and tasks

Choose your industry from the dropdown, then select the tasks your team currently handles. We have grouped common tasks into categories: finance and administration, customer operations, marketing and content, and general administration. Select at least three tasks to get a meaningful estimate.

2

Estimate your hours

For each task you selected, estimate how many hours per week your team spends on it. You can use the quick-set buttons or adjust manually. Pre-populated defaults are based on typical hours for each task type.

3

Choose your region

Select Australia, New Zealand, or Other. For AU and NZ users, the calculator pre-populates typical salary benchmarks from publicly available data so you can see an estimated dollar figure alongside the industry percentage. You can adjust these defaults if your costs are different. For other regions, you will see the industry savings percentage with an option to speak with a consultant.

4

See your savings estimate

Your results show two things: the industry-specific savings percentage from real Outrun client data, and (for AU/NZ users) an estimated annual dollar saving based on the salary benchmarks. You will also see how your selected tasks map to recommended offshore roles.

Not ready to use the calculator? No problem.

Take your time. There is no pressure and your results will not expire.

Questions about the calculator

How accurate are these results?

The savings percentages come from real Outrun client data across each industry, so they are grounded in actual experience. For Australian and New Zealand users, the dollar estimate is calculated from publicly available salary benchmarks (ABS, Stats NZ, Hays Salary Guide, Robert Half Salary Guide). It is a reasonable starting point, though your actual costs may differ depending on current salaries, task complexity, and how your business is structured. For validated projections based on your real organisational data, the next step is a free Activity Analysis Session or a CMO Evaluation.

How does the dollar estimate work?

For Australian and New Zealand users, the calculator takes the tasks and hours you select, applies a loaded hourly rate from publicly available salary data for your region, and then applies the industry savings percentage from our client data. The result is an approximate annual and monthly saving. Dollar figures are rounded and clearly marked as estimates. They give you a tangible sense of what the percentage means for your business, without claiming false precision. If you are outside Australia or New Zealand, the calculator shows the industry percentage with an option to speak with a consultant about your region.

How much can Australian businesses save with offshore staffing?

Australian businesses typically save 60-75% on labour costs for remote-capable tasks when using offshore staff, compared to the fully loaded cost of hiring locally for the same role. The exact figure depends on the task types, current salary levels, and the industry. For example, our client data shows professional services firms saving around 68% and retail businesses around 67.5%. This calculator uses your specific task mix and industry to produce a more tailored estimate than a generic percentage.

What tasks save the most when handled by offshore staff?

Administration, finance and bookkeeping, customer service, and marketing support tasks typically deliver the strongest savings. These are high-volume, process-driven activities where the cost difference between local and offshore delivery is most pronounced. The savings range for these categories is generally 63-75% compared to local hiring costs for the same role. Tasks requiring deep local market knowledge, in-person presence, or senior strategic judgement are less suited to offshore delivery.

What is the difference between this calculator, the Activity Analysis Session, and the CMO Evaluation?

The calculator gives you a self-serve estimate in about two minutes. It works with the tasks you select and uses industry benchmarks. It is a useful starting point, not a detailed analysis.

The Activity Analysis Session is a free, one-hour conversation with one of our consultants. You work through your actual business activities together, and the consultant identifies where you may be overpaying for work that could be handled offshore at significantly lower cost. There is no formal report (that is the CMO Evaluation), but you walk away with identified opportunities and cost ranges.

The CMO Evaluation is a paid engagement (starting at $750) that goes deeper: org chart mapping, cost centre analysis, and a formal report with quantified savings and an implementation roadmap.

Think of it as three levels of depth: the calculator gives you a number, the Activity Analysis Session explains where the savings sit, and the CMO Evaluation validates and quantifies everything with a detailed plan.

Is my data stored?

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. We do not store your task selections, hours, or salary inputs. If you choose to enter your email to receive detailed results, we store only the information you provide.

What if my industry is not listed?

Select "Other" and we will show cross-industry benchmarks. These are less specific but still useful as a general guide. For a more tailored analysis, book a free Activity Analysis Session where a consultant can work through your specific situation.

How much does offshore staff cost in the Philippines?

Fully managed offshore staff through Outrun typically cost $9-$18 AUD per hour depending on the role, inclusive of service fees. This compares to a loaded local cost of $38-$62 AUD per hour for equivalent roles in Australia (including superannuation, payroll tax, and overhead). For New Zealand businesses, local costs are typically 5-10% lower. The calculator uses these benchmarks from publicly available data (ABS, Stats NZ) to estimate your specific savings.

What are the hidden costs of offshore staffing?

The most common hidden costs in offshore staffing are management overhead, communication friction, quality inconsistency, and recruitment churn. Outrun addresses these directly. Our 180-day re-recruitment guarantee (6x the industry standard of 30 days) means if a placement is not working, we re-recruit at no additional cost, no reason required. Our pricing model is radically transparent: zero markup on salaries, with a cost recovery plus fixed monthly service fee structure. There are no hidden fees.

Is offshore staffing worth it for small businesses?

For businesses with 10 to 100 employees, offshore staffing can be one of the most effective ways to reduce costs without reducing capability. It is not only for large enterprises. The majority of Outrun's clients are scaling ANZ businesses in this range. The calculator is designed specifically for this audience. If you are unsure whether your business is a good fit, a free Activity Analysis Session is the best way to find out: one hour, no commitment, and you will know quickly whether the opportunity is real for your situation.

See your estimated savings. Now imagine what a consultant could find in your actual business.

The calculator works with the tasks you selected and publicly available benchmarks. It cannot see the hidden costs in your business: senior staff spending time on work that does not require their expertise, tasks scattered across roles that should be consolidated, or structural inefficiencies you are too close to notice.

A free Activity Analysis Session with one of our consultants goes further. In one hour, you work through your actual business activities together to uncover where the real opportunities sit.
