Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?

Legal definition

Hypnosis is:

- The bypass of the critical faculty

- The accepting of selective thinking, thoughts, concepts and ideas that is ok by you and consistent with your values

- The altering of a person's belief or reality through suggestion.

History of Hypnosis

Hypnosis is as old as civilization. Known under different labels, it dates as far back as 2000 BC. Hypnosis gets its name from 'Hypnos', the Greek 'god of sleep'.

In the 19th and 20th century scholars such as Milton Erickson, William James, Pavlov, Krasner and Jung brought hypnosis to the forefront. 1958 - Hypnotherapy/Hypnosis was officially recognised by the  American Medical Association, followed by British & Australian Medical Associations when practised by appropriately trained and qualified persons. Health websites such as https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/ states that hypnotherapy is 'now recognised by the scientific community as an effective healing tool and used as part of medical, psychological and dental treatments’. Also recognises that 'Hypnosis is considered to be a safe treatment when performed by a qualified and experienced practitioner.

Hence Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy is now a more widespread and acceptable way of enhancing your life and wellness.Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that we all experience everyday, often multiple times. It's a naturally occurring trance state - think of getting so engrossed in a television show or a movie that you or your attention cannot be dragged away. Or playing a game on your device or reading a great book....

When the hypnotherapist works with the client, 3 parts are considered:

1. Conscious Mind Logical, analytical, deliberate, cognitive, limited focus.

2. Unconscious/Sub-conscious Mind Unlimited, expansive, involuntary, intuitive, active while still sleeping/dreaming, feeling

3. Critical Faculty Protects, 'Firewall' between conscious/unconscious mind, allows conscious mind to evaluate and perhaps reject incoming information.

How does Hypnosis work?

When you are in the hypnotic state, your suggestibility is heightened. Guided by a hypnotherapist, the critical faculty is bypassed and positive suggestions are given to your subconscious mind to replace old patterns.

You're in a relaxed state and you are always in control. Hypnotherapy leads you in a systematic way and sets you up for success.

What can Hypnosis help treat?

Thousands (if not millions) of people around the world have benefited from hypnotherapy treatments.

How many Hypnotherapy sessions will I require?

As every body is unique, it's hard to say. In your free pre-session consultation we’ll chat and establish how I can best help you.

Why schedule a Hypnotherapy pre-session consultation before I book an appointment?

A pre-session consultation allows us to see how I can best help you. I'll ask you some questions to establish where you are right now, what's going on for you and what the most suitable holistic course of action would be for you and your health.

Can Hypnotherapy be done remotely?

Absolutely!  Hypnotherapy is equally effective remotely as in person.

While I’d love to meet you face-to-face, I successfully work with clients across Australia and internationally, achieving incredible results. I'm here to support you, no matter where you are.

Can I claim my Hypnotherapy session with my health fund?

Health fund policies differ, so it's best to check directly with your provider to see if hypnotherapy sessions are covered under your plan.
