We make every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease.
When do I need a tooth extraction?
Our dentists make every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth unsalvageable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease. Depending on which tooth is removed, we can offer you a replacement in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic
We make every effort to save teeth - we do not take extractions lightly. However, some teeth are so broken down that extraction is the only option. We will take the time to review reasons why the tooth/teeth need to be extracted and please do not hesitate to ask questions.
We will make sure you are comfortable during your extraction by making the area numb with local anesthetic. You will feel pressure, but not pain during the extraction. Depending on how in depth the extraction is, sutures may be placed. You may need to come back to have the sutures removed. We may give you an antibiotic and pain medication if needed.
Healing of the extraction socket begins immediately and lasts for several weeks. The gum tissue will start covering the socket within days, but may take a few weeks in order for it to be fully covered. It will take a few months after the extraction for there to be sufficient bone to place an implant if that is part of the treatment plan.
