What Are You Choosing To Not Want To Know?

Mindset, Sales Oct 11, 2020

Are you the type of person who has ever dealt with a mindset around a certain issue?

It could be around money, making sales, losing weight, or any of those other negative thoughts that creep into our minds.

Have you ever thought, "I just can't do that. I don't understand, I've tried it before and it didn't work. I can't keep money, I can't make sales, I can't lose weight, I can't keep a boyfriend, I can't keep a girlfriend.”

Whatever it might be, have you ever been there?

The answer for every single one of us is YES!

And maybe you are in that place right now. You are thinking that this is just the way things are and you have to live with it.

But, I’m here to tell you that you don’t just “have to live with it.”

Have you chosen to not want to know?

Recently, I was dealing with, or have been dealing with, an issue around just money. I mentioned this to a friend and she asked me, “Have you chosen to want to not want to know?"

Sit with that for a second.

Have you chosen to not want to know?

For some people, there are things we just don't understand. For me, in years past, when I didn't understand something, I had to spend some time figuring out why I was behaving the way I was in certain places in my life.

I realized that when things got really hard or I felt like I didn't really understand something, I would distract myself with something that I knew I could do well, so I didn't have to focus on the hard things.

But, when we don't deal with it and keep putting it on the backburner - instead of focusing on how things look beautiful without that difficult thing - the thing on the back burner isn’t getting better. It’s getting bigger.

You have a choice to want to get better.

The things we don’t face get bigger and bigger. Then, when you finally take a minute to address it, it’s even more overwhelming. Then you get stuck in the “this is so big, I don’t know where to start” phase.

But guess what? You have a choice to want to get better.

When we don’t want to deal with something and push it off - whether it be on someone else, in another area, or not deal with it at all - we are resigning ourselves to feel as though it’s okay.

In the past couple of years, I have lost 55 pounds. I have gained about 15 of that back because I went back into that old mindset for a little bit thinking that I was just big-boned. But once I realized that I was self-sabotaging, I’m back on my journey to finish what I started. I understand now that we have a responsibility as it pertains to our willingness to know what we need to know. I changed my mindset and things are working.

So when it comes to your sales, have you ever said these things to yourself?

  • People won't say yes to me
  • I can't charge this amount
  • It feels too weird, too salesy
  • I just don't want to do sales
  • I'm just not good at sales

I'm going to challenge you to really sit with this question.

What are you choosing to not want to know?

Is it that you don’t want to do the research around your ideal client to know how to reach them? Or maybe you don’t want to spend the time to learn how to communicate better. Or maybe it’s that you are unconfident in your pricing.

Whatever the reason, sometimes it’s easier to throw up your hands and says, “I just can’t. I don’t understand, therefore, I just don’t.”

That stops now!

We are going to choose to be better so that we can take those areas that we’ve been putting on the back burner and deal with them now.

That doesn’t mean that you have to become an expert in a certain area. However, it does mean that you are no longer going to allow that one thing to be a bully in your life anymore. Commit to making those steps right now!

Those blocks are stopping you from having the conversations that you need to have, asking for the money that you need to ask for, and causing the sales process to be smoother.

If you need help around your sales mindset, let’s chat.

I promise you, at the very least, you'll be able to see things a little differently.

Commit now to yourself that you’re not allowing the fear of having a sales conversation bully you into poverty, having to let go of your dream, and not achieving the level of success that you were born to have in your life.
