At Better Steps Life Skills Center, we believe that growth and happiness come from connection. Our community events, family workshops, and social programs are open to everyone — providing a welcoming space to learn, share, and celebrate every ability.
Each event offers opportunities to build friendships, gain new skills, and access valuable resources for individuals and families. Together, we create a stronger, more inclusive community — one step, one smile, one event at a time.
As we celebrate the holiday season, please take note of our upcoming office closures. This time allows our team to rest, recharge, and return ready to continue supporting our community. During these closure periods, responses may be delayed. We encourage you to plan accordingly and reach out to us before or after these dates for assistance.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust.
We wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year!

"This camp truly helped me grow"
"I joined Season 4 of Better Steps Life Skills Camp, and it became such a meaningful
experience for me. I learned practical lessons like budgeting and saving, but the
most important thing I discovered was how to communicate with others. Before the camp, I didn’t like to talk at all — I was very shy and often kept to myself. Through the activities and encouragement from the staff and my peers, I slowly found my voice. Now I feel more confident in speaking up and sharing my thoughts. This camp truly helped me grow, and I would love to join again in the upcoming Career Camp with
Better Steps Life Skills."
- Pia (Season 4)

"It helped me take the first steps toward my future"
At camp, I learned the importance of connecting with people. I had the chance to interact with new friends, build relationships, and work as part of a team.
Before, I often felt nervous about making friends, but the camp showed me how much easier it can be when you share activities and goals together. I also began to understand what type of career I might want to pursue. This program gave me confidence and
helped me take the first steps toward my future.
- Christian

"I'm very thankful for everything"
I have been part of the Life Skills Camp from Season 1 through Season 4, and every
year has given me something new and valuable. I learned how to start a business and what it really takes to be an entrepreneur. I gained important business skills that
I know I will use in the future. One of the biggest lessons I took away was about self-advocacy. Speaking up for myself was never easy, but the camp gave me the tools and confidence to do it. The most powerful thing I learned was discovering the career path I want to follow. That knowledge gave me direction and hope for my future. I am truly thankful for everything Better Steps has given me, and I would love to continue joining more camps.
- Jencarlos (Seasons 1 – 4)

The Better Steps Foundation proudly hosted its 4th Annual Toy Drive on December 7, 2025, at Coach Sam Burley Park, formerly known as Southridge Park, located at 11250 SW 192nd St, Miami, FL 33157. The event served as a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with a shared goal of giving back.
From the moment families arrived, the park was filled with excitement, laughter, and holiday cheer. Volunteers greeted guests with warm smiles. Children eagerly waited to receive toys. The spirit of the season was alive and strong.

The Better Steps Foundation continues to focus on creating opportunities that uplift families and strengthen neighborhoods. The annual toy drive is one of the foundation’s most meaningful initiatives, designed to support children and parents during a time of year that can be both joyful and challenging.
For many families, the holidays bring financial stress. Rising costs and limited resources can make it difficult to provide gifts. The Better Steps Foundation Toy Drive in Miami helped ease that burden by ensuring children could experience the joy and excitement that every child deserves during the holiday season.

The event was hosted by Dominiece Cox, whose leadership and dedication played a key role in bringing the community together. Under her guidance, the toy drive continues to grow each year, reaching more families and creating lasting memories.
The event took place from 12 PM to 3 PM, offering families a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly space to gather, celebrate, and connect.
The success of the 4th Annual Better Steps Foundation Toy Drive would not have been possible without strong community partnerships. These collaborations ensured the event ran smoothly while reinforcing trust and connection between residents and local agencies.
The Better Steps Foundation extends sincere thanks to the following partners for their continued support and presence:
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office
Hammocks District Neighborhood Resource Unit
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
Their involvement helped create a secure and positive environment, allowing families to focus on enjoying the event and celebrating the holiday season together.
The Better Steps Foundation also expresses deep appreciation to the sponsors whose generosity helped bring the toy drive to life. Their support provided toys, resources, and additional holiday treats that made the day unforgettable for many children.
Special thanks to:
Publix
SouthState Bank
Dollar Tree
Starbucks
Krispy Kreme
Toys for Tots
Miami-Dade County
Each sponsor played a vital role in spreading holiday joy and demonstrating the power of corporate and community responsibility.
Hosting the event at Coach Sam Burley Park (F.K.A. Southridge Park) allowed the foundation to connect directly with families in the heart of South Miami-Dade. The park’s open and accessible layout created the perfect backdrop for a holiday celebration built on togetherness, generosity, and hope.
Children enjoyed the festive atmosphere while parents connected with volunteers and community partners. The park became more than just a venue. It became a place of shared joy and unity.
Now in its fourth year, the Better Steps Foundation Toy Drive continues to grow in impact and reach. Each year builds on the last, creating stronger relationships, greater trust, and more opportunities to support families in need.
The foundation remains committed to its mission. Help families take better steps forward. One event. One partnership. One child at a time.
The 2025 Better Steps Foundation Toy Drive stands as a powerful example of what is possible through collaboration. The foundation is grateful to every volunteer, sponsor, partner, and family who contributed to making the event a success.
Together, we brought joy this holiday season. Together, we strengthened our community. And together, we continue to take better steps toward a brighter future for Miami’s children.
