Kevin P. Smidt, M.D., is an Orthopedic Surgeon with fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction of the Hip and Knee, with a focus on minimally invasive, muscle-sparing techniques and opioid-free, rapid-recovery protocols. He also covers Orthopedic Trauma Call at several institutions in his practice city.
Dr. Smidt earned his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University, where he was a Division I Scholar-Athlete. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Louisiana State University Health. While there, Dr. Smidt received several honors, including the Chairman’s Award for the highest Orthopedic In-Training Examination score and Most Outstanding Resident, AAOS Resident of the Month, and the Dr. David and Sharon Waddell Award for Orthopaedic Resident Excellence.
During his time at LSU Health, he served on a multidisciplinary tumor board representing the orthopaedic oncology division and was team leader and creator of the LSU Health “Joints Camp” program, a preoperative education class for patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty.
Following residency, he completed an Adult Reconstruction fellowship at Baptist Health South Florida in Coral Gables before returning to Columbus, OH, to start professional practice with Orthopedic One.
Dr. Smidt is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and a peer reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty. He has also presented his research at each of these national orthopedic organizations' annual meetings over the years and has written chapters for some of the most high-impact orthopedic textbooks.
