Why This Mission Matters

Open Door Women’s Shelter exists because Beaufort County needed a safe place for women and children with nowhere else to go. Before we opened our doors in 2017, options for single women and mothers facing homelessness were limited, and the community had no dedicated space designed for their unique needs.

The mission started simple. To empower women and children experiencing homelessness by providing secure shelter, holistic support, and essential resources that foster lasting stability and create a place where women can breathe. A place where they feel protected. A place where they can rebuild with dignity. Over time, the mission grew into a community-supported effort to give women and their children a real chance at stability and independence.

Every woman we serve carries a different story, but the goal stays the same. Safety. Hope. A future. That’s why we show up every day, and why this mission still matters.

What donations do we accept?

On this website, we offer easy-to-use links for sale financial contributions. Additionally, we maintain an up-to-date Amazon Wishlist. However, due to storage constraints, we can't accept clothing or shoe donations. Still, feel free to ask about particular sizes, as we might have a resident who requires them.
