Who We Are

Our gym is a unique space. From the outside, it may look just like any other gym, which we understand can be intimidating. However, once you step inside, you'll experience something quite different from the large, impersonal fitness centres.

From the very beginning, I've emphasised the importance of personal connections. My team and I make it a point to know each person by name, recognising that our members are not just numbers; they're dedicated individuals entrusting us with their well-being and investing their hard-earned money. This is a responsibility we take seriously.

We understand that most people don't appreciate being shouted at like military recruits. Instead, we strive to strike the ideal balance between fun and productivity, helping everyone become more athletic and achieve their personal goals—not just what we might prescribe as the "gold standard." We believe in this approach and deliver it with genuine smiles.

Since opening our doors in 2008, we have gathered a wealth of experience from injury prevention, to overcoming training based anxiety and everything in between. All things that ensure we can give you a sustainable approach to tangible results.

Understanding

The key to a good coach is the ability to understand the individual and apply the best approach for them personally. We understand, the general public don't enjoy being yelled at like an army bootcamp, nor do they like an environment that isn't enjoyable.

Motivated

This is our full time career, not a side hustle or stepping stone to an unrelated job. In this industry, your reputation is everything and we are motivated everyday to ensure we look after the people before the profits.

Our Team's Profile

Matt Winkley

OWNER & HEAD TRAINER


Matt is the founder and director of WINKfit. He defines his approach as the combination of science and the soft skills of coaching to transform habits, bodies and improve quality of life. 2024 marks his 18th year in the fitness industry.

With a diverse sporting background he naturally gravitated to working with sporting teams. While not limited to golf, this quickly became his niche sport and is training multiple professional golfers. Outside of his client training schedule Matt is an avid reader of anything that causes him to question what he believes he knows.

Matt prides himself on his innovative approach to first master what is inside the box and then experiment outside it.

Beyond of the gym, Matt unwinds by hitting the golf course, diving into a good read and spending time with the girls – his wife and daughters.

Tammy Winkley

OPERATIONS MANAGER


Tammy, is the operations manager at Winkfit and brings a unique skill set to the team. She plays a crucial role in overseeing the vital behind-the-scenes operations that contribute to the gym’s seamless operation.

Tammy comes with a wealth of experience in managing backend systems, processes, accounts, payroll, Human Resources, and scheduling. Her exceptional organisational skills are renowned for maintaining the seamless operation of Winkfit, and supporting the entire team.

Outside of her work, Tammy shares her life with Matt and their two children. When off-duty, she enjoys going to the beach, reading, and baking.

Dave O'Connor

2IC & TRAINER


Dave holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from QUT, Dave’s fervor for health and fitness is underpinned by four years of internships, coaching, and training diverse populations.

“Improving lives through strength, fitness, and mindset is my mission. I’m committed to delivering top-notch service, always focused on the ‘why’ behind every exercise. In a sea of misinformation in the fitness industry, I’m here to provide the quality people deserve. I aim to help individuals do more for longer, make challenges seem effortless, and genuinely transform lives.

Sean Tailford

TRAINER

Sean is in the final year of his Exercise Science degree, complimented by two and a half years of an intensive internship experience. He champions a respectful, non-confrontational approach to fitness training, focusing on imparting solid health and fitness knowledge that he found lacking in his younger years and training journey.

While Sean has a special passion for guiding aspiring athletes, he applies his expertise to help people from all walks of life achieve their fitness goals. His training programs are crafted with a deep understanding of individual motivations and needs, ensuring they are both personal and effective for anyone who walks into the gym.

Outside of training sessions, Sean enjoys football, camping, and engaging with motorsports. These interests reflect his appreciation for teamwork, the outdoors, and precision. His friendly and accessible demeanour makes him a popular coach, appreciated by clients across the board.
