Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How do you dry out a water damaged floor?

It depends on the type of flooring. Carpet and pad can be extracted and dried with air-movers and dehumidifiers. Real hardwood flooring can be dried using floor mats that draw air from in between the strips of hardwood. Other flooring types like laminate and vinyl may need to be replaced.

2. Will a dehumidifier remove standing water?

Extraction is the best method to remove standing water. Dehumidifiers are used to address high moisture content in the atmosphere (air). They should typically be used in conjunction with air-movers (fans).

STRUCTURAL DRYING

Structural drying is the process of removing water & excess moisture from structural materials such as concrete, wood, and drywall to prevent further damage, as well as bacteria and mold growth. It’s a critical step during restoration which comes right after water extraction, typically involving skilled professionals and specialized equipment.

Water Extraction From Concrete & Drywall

Water Extraction From Wood Flooring

Professional structural drying also includes the documentation of all moisture measurements and the methods used for mitigation. Your insurance company will be able to view this documentation and know that you have taken every necessary measure to save your home. Which gives you a much better chance of having your claim verified and closed, rather than starting over again.

Here is our effective 4 step process:

1. Water Extraction

Drying structures is based on water extraction as the first step. In spite of the fact that several extraction methods exist, physical extraction releases water the fastest. Liquid water extraction is the most efficient method ... it extracts at a pace of at least 500 times faster than air movers and dehumidifiers would when used in this state.

2. Airflow - The Evaporation Phase

The remaining moisture is evaporated with high-velocity air movers after the water has been physically removed. The market has expanded to include air movers as structural drying equipment specifically tailored to fast structural drying in recent years. Their low energy consumption improves the efficiency of air circulation and the overall process

3. Dehumidification - Balancing Evaporation

Dehumidification is used to remove moisture from the air lowering the vapour pressure, so that the equipment used to create air movement, can continue to facilitate moisture evaporating from the wet structure or contents. In this phase Dehumidifiers are used to remove moisture from the air to create a balances drying system. It is not simply that the moisture in the floor and furniture disappears as it dries out and evaporates, and mold and evaporates into the air as water vapor. The room would be damaged if there were no dehumidifiers to remove the moisture. Mold growth after water damage would certainly result from a delayed drying process.

4. Temperature Control

After structural drying and dehumidification, in the first 36 to 48 hours, the temperature of the air should be between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The evaporation process is helped by warmer air than 70 degrees Fahrenheit as cooler air slows evaporation. The heat that exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit hinders dehumidifiers’ operation. It is the job of our restoration specialists to use their experience and the equipment necessary to maintain the proper environment for the best possible outcome.

  • Sewage or Septic tank backups

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long does water damage restoration take?

It depends on the type of flooring. Carpet and pad can be extracted and dried with airmovers and dehumidifiers. Real hardwood flooring can be dried using floor mats that draw air from in between the strips of hardwood. Other flooring types like laminate and vinyl may need to be replaced.

What happens when water gets in your walls?

Water in wall cavities needs to be dried out by a water restoration company like equi-linc. Our approach is to detach baseboard and drill holes in the drywall to give access to the wall cavity.  We will remove extremely damaged areas of the wall where it is severely damaged by water and replace them entirely. Areas that can be retored will be reconstructed as per the overall plan for the project.

Should you replace drywall if it gets wet?

Drywall can be effectively dried even if it gets wet. As long as the source of loss is sanitary. equi-linc will use air-movers to cause evaporation of water in the drywall and dehumidifiers to remove water from the atmosphere when the loss site is in this state.

Water Damage resulting from any of these circumstances is progressive, pervasive and can cause permanent damage to your home and valuable items. Calling a water restoration specialist such as Venice Advantage is the best way to ensure that a thorough assessment of your property is completed, a full restoration of your home is planned out properly and the work is performed to your individual specifications.
