There are several reasons for earning classical guitar. Some of them relate to mindset, while others relate to specific technical aspects.
Let's start with the technical benefits. Learning classical guitar πΈ will definitely help with developing left-hand strength πͺ and independence. It is not the same as practicing on an electric guitar πΈπ, but it will provide a good workout.
The skills that you develop on the classical guitar, such as finger independence and strength, can be transferred to the electric guitar. Additionally, learning classical guitar will help with developing endurance in your fretting hand π€.

Many classical pieces πΌ, whether they are studies or performance pieces, are several minutes long β³. Throughout these pieces, the left hand is constantly getting a workout with changing chord shapes and moving all over the guitar, which builds up a lot of endurance. This is a good advantage of playing classical guitar, and it translates very well to the electric guitar.
However, in my opinion π, the most important things you will learn from classical guitar that will help with your electric guitar playing are not technical elements but rather mindset π§ and discipline.
To learn classical guitar pieces, you must develop a high level of discipline in memorization π§ π, creating perfect movements for your left and right hand, and focus to practice these elements.
These are invaluable skills no matter what kind of music you want to play or what kind of instrument πΉπ·π₯ you want to play. Additionally, playing classical guitar will help with developing your music reading π ability and your memorization π§ π ability, both of which will transfer well to electric guitar playing.
Finally, if you have been playing classical guitar πΈ for a while, you have developed the ability to have a consistent practice schedule ποΈ and to break down large pieces of music and learn them one piece at a time π°οΈ. Both of these skills will be invaluable no matter what kind of guitar style you want to play, whether it's electric, blues, rock, metal π€π€, or any other genre.
Therefore, if you have been playing classical guitar for a few years, it is definitely an advantage over someone who has not played any instrument βπ΅. However, if you have five years ahead of you and want to become an electric guitar player, the answer is always to practice electric guitar.
But if you have the option of either not practicing anything or only playing classical guitar and then want to become an electric guitar player, practicing classical guitar πΈ will help you to some extent π, specifically with the elements outlined above.
