Solving Myofascial Pain and Mobility Problems

Solving Myofascial Pain and Mobility Problems

June 27, 20242 min read

Many of us may not have a deep understanding of the body's fascia system and its role in movement patterns. This topic can often be overlooked, but it's important to recognize how fascia contributes to overall physical health. Let's take a closer look at this fascinating aspect of the human body.

STORY TIME
I have been treating my mom for her low back pain and neck pain for the last few weeks. When working on her right hip, she would always have this same sided neck pain arise when doing certain motions. I would move her leg, neck pain would begin. I would work on the neck and then go back to the leg again the same pain was still there.

She also had a strange tightness in the left hip and was unable to let her knee down into a butterfly stretch on that side. She also couldn’t reach the floor with her fingers anymore since her lumbar fusion earlier this year.

This week we tried a different approach. We did manual and mobility work to her problem areas and then reassessed and the odd pain in the neck and the tight left hip was still there.

We then performed dry needling for both the neck in the back followed with movement with mobilization via cupping to the scar tissue and lumbar region.

We reassessed for the strange neck pain caused by the hip movement and it was gone. We reassessed the butterfly stretch position and she could now fall down into the position with ease. Finally, not believing it herself, she reached down and touched the floor like it was no problem!

LESSON LEARNED

Long story short, you don’t have to live with myofascial pain and tightness and even if you don’t know if that is what is causing your problems, it very well could be. Working with a clinician that understands ho to improve tightness and myofascial restrictions can be the game changer you need to move pain-free.

If you’re struggling with stiffness and scar tissue limiting movements in every day life and having problems returning to your hobbies and sports, reach out and book your evaluation today.

Don’t let this be a roadblock for you and your goals.
