At Attuned Psychiatry, patient safety is our top priority. This Prescription Policy is designed to ensure responsible prescribing, promote safe medication use, and clarify expectations related to psychiatric medications.

By receiving care at Attuned Psychiatry, you agree to the following terms regarding prescription medications.

A. Prescribing Authority

Only licensed providers at Attuned Psychiatry are authorized to prescribe medication. Prescriptions are based on:

A comprehensive clinical evaluation

Medical and mental health history

Ongoing assessment and monitoring

Medical necessity and appropriateness

Medication will not be prescribed without an approved consultation.

B. Controlled Substances Policy

Certain psychiatric medications are classified as controlled substances and are strictly regulated. These include (but are not limited to):

Stimulants (e.g., ADHD medications)

Benzodiazepines (e.g., anxiety or sleep medications)

Some sleep or pain medications

Patients receiving controlled substances must:

Use one pharmacy and one provider for prescriptions

Refrain from seeking overlapping or duplicate prescriptions

Submit to periodic monitoring or drug screening when required

Safeguard all medications to prevent misuse or loss

Lost or stolen medications will not be replaced early.

C. Refills and Renewals

Prescription refills must be requested during business hours and processed only after clinical review.

Refill requests:

Should be submitted at least 3–5 business days before running out

Are not guaranteed without follow-up compliance

May require an appointment before approval

Emergency or after-hours refills are not guaranteed.

D. Appointments and Follow-Ups

Ongoing prescriptions require regular follow-up appointments based on clinical need.

Failure to attend appointments may result in:

Medication delays

Dose reduction or discontinuation

Termination of prescribing services

It is your responsibility to remain compliant with scheduled visits.

E. Changes and Discontinuation

Attuned Psychiatry reserves the right to:

Adjust dosages

Change medications

Discontinue treatment at any time if medically indicated

Stop prescribing if misuse, abuse, or safety concerns arise

You will be informed of clinically necessary changes whenever possible.

F. Medication Safety and Compliance

Patients are required to:

Take medications exactly as prescribed

Avoid sharing medications

Report side effects promptly

Disclose all medications from other providers

Inform providers of substance use (including alcohol or cannabis)

Failure to comply may result in discontinuation of prescribing privileges.

G. Early Refills and Exceptions

Early refills are not guaranteed and are issued only under documented circumstances such as:

Verified pharmacy errors

Medical emergencies

Provider-approved exceptions

Repeated early refill requests may result in treatment review.

H. Telehealth Prescriptions

Medications prescribed through telehealth are subject to federal and state laws. Certain medications may require:

In-person evaluations

Identity verification

Regulatory-compliant documentation

We follow all state and federal telemedicine prescribing laws.

I. Pharmacy Responsibility

Patients are responsible for:

Verifying pharmacy accuracy

Picking up medications on time

Reporting dispensing issues immediately

Providing updated pharmacy information

J. Violation of Policy

Violation of this policy may result in:

Restriction or discontinuation of prescriptions

Mandatory compliance review

Discharge from care

Reporting where legally required
