Last season alone, over 7,000 neighbors received free, trusted tax help.
It is Congress’ intent that the services provided through the VITA program be free to eligible individuals. Therefore, our services are—and will always remain—free to taxpayers. However, delivering this work requires significant resources.
Behind the scenes, the cost of coordinating people, training, sites, and technology exceeds $200,000 annually. Since 2004, Life Transforming Ministries (LTM), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has managed the program in partnership with the IRS. We are grateful for the sustained financial leadership of United Way of Chester County, Vanguard, and the Chester County Commissioners.
The need continues to grow—and so does the opportunity to make a measurable difference. According to the IRS, each free return saves a filer $300 or more in preparation costs. That means a one-time gift of $300—or $25 a month—covers the equivalent of an entire return for a local household.
