Prescription PolicY

Prescription PolicY

Effective Date: 2 December 2025

At Attuned Psychiatry, patient safety is our top priority. This Prescription Policy is designed to ensure responsible prescribing, promote safe medication use, and clarify expectations related to psychiatric medications.

By receiving care at Attuned Psychiatry, you agree to the following terms regarding prescription medications.

A. Prescribing Authority

Only licensed providers at Attuned Psychiatry are authorized to prescribe medication. Prescriptions are based on:

  • A comprehensive clinical evaluation

  • Medical and mental health history

  • Ongoing assessment and monitoring

  • Medical necessity and appropriateness

Medication will not be prescribed without an approved consultation.

B. Controlled Substances Policy

Certain psychiatric medications are classified as controlled substances and are strictly regulated. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Stimulants (e.g., ADHD medications)

  • Benzodiazepines (e.g., anxiety or sleep medications)

  • Some sleep or pain medications

Patients receiving controlled substances must:

  • Use one pharmacy and one provider for prescriptions

  • Refrain from seeking overlapping or duplicate prescriptions

  • Submit to periodic monitoring or drug screening when required

  • Safeguard all medications to prevent misuse or loss

Lost or stolen medications will not be replaced early.

C. Refills and Renewals

Prescription refills must be requested during business hours and processed only after clinical review.

Refill requests:

  • Should be submitted at least 3–5 business days before running out

  • Are not guaranteed without follow-up compliance

  • May require an appointment before approval

Emergency or after-hours refills are not guaranteed.

D. Appointments and Follow-Ups

Ongoing prescriptions require regular follow-up appointments based on clinical need.

Failure to attend appointments may result in:

  • Medication delays

  • Dose reduction or discontinuation

  • Termination of prescribing services

It is your responsibility to remain compliant with scheduled visits.

E. Changes and Discontinuation

Attuned Psychiatry reserves the right to:

  • Adjust dosages

  • Change medications

  • Discontinue treatment at any time if medically indicated

  • Stop prescribing if misuse, abuse, or safety concerns arise

You will be informed of clinically necessary changes whenever possible.

F. Medication Safety and Compliance

Patients are required to:

  • Take medications exactly as prescribed

  • Avoid sharing medications

  • Report side effects promptly

  • Disclose all medications from other providers

  • Inform providers of substance use (including alcohol or cannabis)

Failure to comply may result in discontinuation of prescribing privileges.

G. Early Refills and Exceptions

Early refills are not guaranteed and are issued only under documented circumstances such as:

  • Verified pharmacy errors

  • Medical emergencies

  • Provider-approved exceptions

Repeated early refill requests may result in treatment review.

H. Telehealth Prescriptions

Medications prescribed through telehealth are subject to federal and state laws. Certain medications may require:

  • In-person evaluations

  • Identity verification

  • Regulatory-compliant documentation

We follow all state and federal telemedicine prescribing laws.

I. Pharmacy Responsibility

Patients are responsible for:

  • Verifying pharmacy accuracy

  • Picking up medications on time
