Yeah the title says it all! I have never worked for a debt collection company so I don’t know what way they “work”
I know my business is “Reid Collections Ltd” and “Reid Credit Solutions” however my main aim is to get businesses to avoid the debt collection stage because it can be too late for some businesses!
The answer to the above questions are absolutely NOT!
Firstly, I like to get to know my clients – I wouldn’t want a call centre to deal with my work (no disrespect to call centres!) BECAUSE the perception of call centres is that there is no personal attention (am not saying they are all like that…..but that’s my experience).
Secondly, if I know the background between my client and their client, then I can deal with the situation better. There’s no point sending out a “standard” letter. There could be a reason why your client hasn’t paid you and I want to try and find out why before we get the solution.
Thirdly, I have absolute empathy with every situation unless they start calling me all the names under the sun (which has happened to me a lot over the years)!!
Do I just send letters and make phone calls?
Again, this is something I don’t do. I send a limited number of letters and make very limited phone calls. If there is no communication, what is the point in carrying on with empty threats.
Will you get your costs back?
All legal costs are recoverable. Yeah you will need to pay outlays but when the Court Decree (now called “Decision”) is granted by the Court, costs, interest and late payment compensation are all on that piece of paper!
Costs incurred after that, i.e. Sheriff officer costs, are added onto this so these are also recoverable
What are your chances of getting paid?
The straight answer to that is I don’t know! There is no guarantee that you will get paid. But….unless that client enters Bankruptcy/Liquidation I would never advise any of my clients to write off a debt. That’s your money and you are entitled to it.
There are loads of legal options available. Being a Qualified Paralegal, I know every aspect of diligence that can be taken, but that starts with the information you have on your client!
The Sooner you deal with an unpaid invoice, the quicker you will get paid.
