My Story

Hi, I’m Niuafe Malupo an artist with proud Tongan roots, born in Auckland and now based in Narm/Melbourne. My deep love for food has always been at the heart of who I am.

Some of my earliest memories are in the kitchen with my mum, who learned to cook and bake from my grandma. What started as a way to help feed their church community in Grey Lynn, Auckland, grew into a generational act of service and love. My grandma became known for her legendary coconut cream layer cakes, and for me, baking has always been a way to honour her legacy and keep that tradition alive.

At 21, I launched my first business Niu Cakery in Auckland. It was a bold leap that taught me so much.

After three years, I made the tough call to close that chapter in 2018 and move to Melbourne, driven by hope, $150 to my name, and a job offer at one of Australia’s top patisseries. It was a risk that came with challenges, growth, and lessons I carry with me to this day.

When the pandemic hit, life shifted again and I found myself back where it all began in the kitchen, baking.

Since then, I’ve been rebuilding with intention, reconnecting with my roots while exploring new growth.

These days, I bake from my own kitchen, keeping things personal, hands-on, and grounded in love. Every cake I make is more than just dessert, it’s a piece of my story, shaped by the women who came before me, and baked with love.

Thanks for stopping by and being part of the journey.
