What is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) Center?

A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center is a licensed, non-residential medical daycare facility that provides skilled nursing care and therapeutic services for medically complex children. PPEC centers allow children to receive medical supervision, therapy, and educational support during the day while returning home to their families at night.

Who qualifies for PPEC services?

Children from birth through age 20 who have medically complex conditions and require physician-prescribed skilled nursing care may qualify. Eligibility is typically determined based on medical necessity and physician orders.

We encourage families to contact our team to discuss specific eligibility requirements and begin the evaluation process.

What services are provided at your center?

Our center offers comprehensive services including:

- Skilled Nursing

- Respiratory Therapy

- Physical Therapy

- Occupational Therapy

- Speech Therapy

- Behavioral Therapy

- Special Education Support

- Nutritional Support

- Transportation Services

- Care Coordination

All services are delivered in a safe, medically supervised environment designed specifically for pediatric patients.

Is PPEC the same as a daycare?

No. While children attend during daytime hours, a PPEC center is a medical facility staffed by licensed nurses and healthcare professionals. Services are provided based on physician orders and medical necessity, making it very different from traditional daycare.

How many hours per day can my child attend?

The number of approved hours depends on physician recommendations and insurance authorization. Some children may attend part-time, while others qualify for full-day services based on medical need.

Does insurance cover PPEC services?

In many cases, Medicaid and some private insurance plans cover PPEC services when medical necessity is established. Our administrative team assists families with verifying benefits and completing required documentation.

What is the staff-to-child ratio?

Our staffing ratios are designed to ensure safe and attentive care. Because we provide skilled nursing and therapy services, staffing levels are higher than traditional childcare settings to meet medical supervision requirements.

How do you ensure my child’s safety?

Safety is our highest priority. Our facility follows strict healthcare regulations, infection control procedures, and individualized care plans. Licensed nurses and trained healthcare professionals continuously monitor children throughout the day.

Can my child receive therapy while attending PPEC?

Yes. One of the benefits of PPEC is integrated care. Children can receive therapy services such as physical, occupational, speech, respiratory, or behavioral therapy during their attendance, depending on their prescribed care plan.

How do I enroll my child?

The enrollment process typically includes:

1. Physician referral and medical documentation

2. Insurance verification

3. Care plan development

4. Orientation and start date scheduling

Our admissions team will guide you step-by-step to make the process as smooth as possible.

Can parents visit the center?

Yes. We encourage open communication and family involvement. Parents and guardians are welcome to coordinate visits and remain actively involved in their child’s care planning.

What makes your PPEC center different?

Our center focuses on comprehensive, coordinated care that supports the whole child — medically, developmentally, and emotionally. By combining skilled nursing, therapy services, education, and family support in one location, we provide a safe and structured environment where children can thrive.

How do you screen your employees?

our child's safety is our priority. Every employee is vetted through the Florida AHCA Clearinghouse before hiring.
