Your Safety Comes First, Always.

At Aqua Beginnings, safety is the foundation of everything we teach. Our safety policy is designed to ensure that every swimmer — from beginners to more advanced students — is protected, supported, and given the confidence to succeed in the water.

Aqua Beginnings Safety Policy

Aqua Beginnings is Lake Havasu City's premier swim program for young swimmers. We teach kids how to feel comfortable, safe, and confident in the water through small-group lessons in our heated outdoor pool.

Led by experienced Coach Rick, our program uses a modified Swim America station system that meets each swimmer exactly where they are. Whether your child is brand new to the water or ready to refine their strokes, we focus on building strong foundations at a safe, comfortable pace.

Certified, Experienced Guidance

All lessons are taught by Coach Rick, an experienced swim instructor with extensive training in water safety, foundational swim development, and early-swimmer progression. His teaching methods prioritize calm breathing, proper body alignment, and safe movement patterns.

Small, Focused Instruction for Maximum Safety

To ensure individualized attention, Aqua Beginnings limits the number of swimmers per session. This allows Coach Rick to monitor each swimmer closely, correct technique gently, and keep swimmers safe every step of the way.

Progress-Based Advancement

Swimmers move through each station only when they have fully mastered the safety components. This prevents rushing skills and ensures strong water readiness before progressing to harder skills.

Breath Control & Recovery Skills Are Taught First

Before learning strokes, every swimmer must demonstrate:

  • Calm inhale/exhale timing

  • Comfort with water on the face

  • Safe wall bobs

  • Ability to float and recover

  • Rolling between front and back positions

These skills protect swimmers in real-world water environments — especially important in Lake Havasu City’s lake and river settings.

Clear Communication

Swimmers and Parents are informed of:

  • Their progress

  • Safety skills mastered

  • Areas that need practice

  • When ready for advancement

We believe transparency builds trust and keeps families confident in the learning process.

No Forced Submersion, Ever

Swimmers are never forced underwater or pushed beyond their comfort level.

All progress is made through trust, encouragement, and positive association with the water.

Safe Facility Practices

Swimmers are informed of:

  • Water is kept at comfortable temperatures

  • Teaching areas are monitored for safe use

  • All equipment is used appropriately

  • Hygiene and cleanliness standards are maintained before every session

We maintain safe, clean, and well-managed facilities so families can feel confident and secure during every lesson.

Parent Responsibilities

To ensure swimmer safety, we require parents to:

  • Arrive on time for drop-off and pick-up

  • Notify us of any medical or developmental considerations

This partnership keeps all children safe and ensures classes run smoothly.

Our Promise to Swimmers

The Swimmer's safety, comfort, and confidence are our top priorities. At Aqua Beginnings, we teach not just swimming skills — but essential lifesaving foundations every swimmer growing up in our waterways should have.

Swimmer | Parent FAQ

What ages can participate in Aqua Beginnings?

Aqua Beginnings welcomes swimmers of varying ages, from beginners just learning to feel comfortable in the water and those working toward stroke development. If you’re unsure which level fits your child best, we’ll help you choose the right starting station.

How does the station-based system work?

Our program is divided into progressive stations, each focusing on a specific foundation of swimming — breath control, floating, gliding, kicking, rolling, basic freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Swimmers move forward once they master the advancement goal for that station, ensuring confidence and safety at every step.

How long does it take to advance through a station?

Every swimmer progresses differently. Some may move through a station in one or two lessons, while others may take additional time to feel truly confident. We do not rush — we focus on safe, steady development.

What makes Aqua Beginnings different from other swim programs in Lake Havasu City?

Aqua Beginnings provides individualized instruction, calm teaching methods, and clear advancement goals. With Lake Havasu City’s active water environment, our program is specifically designed to prepare children for real-life water situations at the lake, pools, and recreational areas across Mohave County

Will the swimmer be safe during lessons?

Yes. Safety is at the core of everything we teach. From proper breath control and safe rolling techniques to strong kicking and confident gliding, each skill is built with the swimmers comfort and protection in mind.

What does my child need to bring to lessons?

Your child should bring:

• A well-fitting swimsuit

• Goggles (optional, depending on comfort)

• Towel

• Water bottle

We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early so you have time to relax and be ready.

How do I know when myself (or my child) is ready to move to the next station?

Each station includes a clearly defined advancement goal (ex: “Kick 15 feet independently” or “Hold a side glide for 10 seconds”). Once the swimmer meets that goal, their instructor will let you know they’re ready for the next level.

Does I (or my child) need to know how to swim before joining?

Not at all! Many swimmers begin at Station 1, learning comfort and breath control. Aqua Beginnings is designed to support absolute beginners through confident, skill-based progression.

How do I sign up for swim lessons?

Families in Lake Havasu City and Mohave County can register by submitting an inquiry on our website for a complete assessment or by contacting us directly.

What if the swimmer is nervous about the water?

This is extremely common. Aqua Beginnings uses gentle, supportive teaching methods to help anxious swimmers feel safe at their own pace. Swimmers who start fearful become confident swimmers thanks to our calm, structured approach.
