We recognize and respect that Halifax, NS was first Kjipuktuk and is the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people. We are all treaty people. Beginning in 1725, a series of Peace and Friendship treaties were signed between the British and the Mi’kmaq. It must be remembered that while these treaties were entered into, the Mi’kmaq were never conquered, and never surrendered, gave up or ceded their land. Mi’kma’ki is still Mi’kmaq territory.
