How did you get started?

My love for art began as a teenager when I experimented with oil paints. I enjoyed art at school and was making good progress, but was guided down the science route instead. Many years later, with a career change, I found myself teaching digital graphic design for computer games that included concept art for characters, scenery and heads up displays.  I enjoyed watching my students develop and was impressed with their drawing skills and imagination. This inspired me to pick up my pencils and develop my graphite drawing skills which then led onto watercolour painting, colour pencil drawing and pastel painting.  I was a man possessed with my spare time spent experimenting with different techniques and media and I studied books on techniques together with the art of the great artists.  My wife Diane encouraged me to start selling my art and together we developed a range of art products that we are both involved in making, with Diane organising social media and venues to attend, I call her my Business Development Manager. Both myself and my wife are passionate about animal welfare.  I love the beauty of animals and find inspiration from many sources such as country walks, photographs or documentaries.

Why did you want to be involved in the Autism Angels shop?

One of Diane’s long standing work colleagues has a son with autism who had a long difficult journey though primary school into secondary school with behavioural problems and it took a long time to get the right diagnosis and support. Further, a fellow trader who we know well has a daughter with autism who attends Autism Angles and invited us to apply.  With having an understanding of the difficulties around time to diagnose and necessary support we appreciate the value of the help and support that Autism Angels provides to the local community.
