Program Meetings and Coffee Chats

Come as you are on Big R's "Senior Discount Day" to visit a while with your fellow members and pick up a few items you might need. No agenda, no program, just a chance to socialize. We’re in the staff lounge—follow the signs to find us!

The North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC) sponsors trail ride competition over a measured distance that is completed within a window of time. Several divisions, from novice to open, allow for fair competition between matched groups. Competitive Trail Rides (CTRs) are usually held over two successive days with horse and rider traveling 15-30 miles per day at speeds 3.5-5 mph. But just as important as the correct speed is the horsemanship displayed while stabled at the trailhead, on trail (which may or may not include trail obstacles) and the health of the horse (which is ensured by veterinary checks before, during and after each ride).
For those who are inspired to try the sport, there will be a CTR Clinic June 27 near Ghost Ranch with a mock ride the next day.
Veteran competitor Amelia Adair, organizer of the Ghost Ranch clinic, will talk about what it takes to prepare for and participate in distance events. She’ll also share some behind-the-scenes information that only those who are competing may know. Amelia is a retired attorney who now serves on various nonprofit boards, including NNMHA.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Please join others for dinner beforehand or just come for the program.
LONGTIME MEMBERS: PLEASE NOTE THE NEW LOCATION!
