NNMHA holds frequent meetings featuring program speakers and Association news. The public is welcome to attend regular program meetings free of any charge.
Program Meeting, Last Wednesday of the Month
Program meetings are typically the last Wednesday of the month and usually hosted at a restaurant where we may share a meal. Location may change for holidays or occasions when we may benefit from arena demonstrations in lieu of a dinner program.

Losing a horse, donkey or mule is often difficult, whether due to normal aging or to sudden injuries. Dr. Berkeley Chesen will discuss how to monitor for issues, manage aging-related problems and discuss some practical end-of-life considerations. This is a difficult subject--but one all horse owners should hear.
Dr. Chesen will address key topics such as:
•Monitoring for problems How do you gauge the seriousness of what is going on?
•When should you actively manage the problem When do you know that the situation has worsened?
•Role of your veterinarian How can the equine’s comfort be managed and what decisions will arise?
•End of Life What practical steps do you need to take? Do you know whom to contact?
Dr. Chesen grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, riding hunters, jumpers and young race horses. She graduated from the University of Nebraska and Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in Indiana. After her internship, she completed a residency in large animal surgery. She is certified in large animal rescue and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
