Casey McGuire, LAc, SMAC.

Director of Operations - Licensed Acupuncturist

About Casey

Casey McGuire is a licensed acupuncturist specializing in orthopedics and pain management. With over 21 years of experience and additional certifications in Sports Medicine Acupuncture, he has extensive knowledge in assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of common injuries and pain problems. Common pain areas and/or injuries that Casey treats are: neck strains, frozen shoulder, lower back pain/strains, sciatica, hip/knee pain, surgical recovery, headaches and migraines, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathies and many more. Casey McGuire understands that treating just the pain doesn’t resolve the entire root cause of the problem. A full orthopedic assessment and intake helps him to derive and explain the causative factors leading to your experienced pain. Specific acupuncture treatments tailored to your body will help him to treat the root cause of your pain, as well as support your constitution so you can quickly recover and get back to what you enjoy. He also includes massage into every treatment and Shockwave therapy is available for an additional modality to help you heal faster.

His Approach

Casey McGuire understands that not only is effective treatment important to a patient’s recovery, but education around their specific conditions leads to better outcomes. Casey spends time listening, assessing and then communicating his findings to every one of his patients so that they are fully educated on what is causing their pain or injury. This approach allows for a stronger collaboration between him and his patients.

Additional modalities include Tuina and deep tissue massage at the end of every treatment, cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, herbal/supplement recommendations, home exercises, Shockwave treatments.

Training & Background

Casey McGuire became fascinated with acupuncture while working in San Francisco with homeless, HIV+ street youth who were managing the complicated effects of their disease, drug addiction, mental health and street culture. As a social work case manager, he witnessed many of his clients utilizing acupuncture to manage their distinct medical needs. Acupuncture seemed to have an effect on all aspects of their lives, allowing them to tolerate medications, sleep better, maintain sobriety and balance their mood.

He moved to Portland, Oregon in the early 2000’s and began to pursue his education at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, graduating after 3 years with his clinical Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In 2022, he completed his certification in Sports Medicine Acupuncture, adding to his clinical skills further to assess and treat complex injuries and pain conditions.

For the past 21 years, he has amassed the experience to approach any of his patient’s concerns and help them through their healing process. With over 40,000 acupuncture treatments provided, there isn’t any condition he doesn’t feel comfortable approaching. His successes have led to recognition amongst his peers being nominated for the past 15 years as one of Portland Monthly’s Top Docs.

Casey McGuire is board certified and licensed in Oregon.

Acupuncture and Shockwave Treatments

Casey offers both acupuncture and regenerative shockwave treatments to assist with patient recovery.

Acupuncture has been practiced to help people recover from pain and injuries, treat internal disease, recover from colds and flus, and support underlying conditions and constitutions. In addition to widely being known to effectively treat pain conditions, acupuncture allows patients to relax their mind and bodies, sleep better, regulate mood and assist in the effects of additional therapies, such as chiropractic medicine and physical therapy. A synergistic effect is commonly seen amongst these modalities when acupuncture is included.

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to treat chronic, stubborn musculoskeletal pain. It stimulates healing by increasing blood flow, breaking down scar tissue and reducing calcified deposits. Additionally, the waves serve as a catalyst to activate and recruit mesenchymal stem cells to injured tissue and promote new blood vessel formation. It boosts circulation, reduces inflammation, and stimulates stem cells to repair chronic musculoskeletal injuries like tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, joint degeneration and even bone fractures.
