EMDR and Somatic Therapy

Talk therapy isn't always the answer.

EMDR therapy is a powerful technique for mental health treatment. By engaging in specific eye movements while processing traumatic memories, EMDR aims to facilitate healing from distressing experiences.

Compared to traditional methods, EMDR offers a faster path to recovery, supported by numerous successful clinical trials since its introduction in 1989.

No such thing as one size fits all treatment

Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR focuses on altering the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors associated with distressing experiences, rather than extensively discussing them.

By activating your brain's natural healing process, EMDR promotes lasting transformation.

It acknowledges the distinction between the brain, an organ of the body, and the mind, which encompasses your thoughts, memories, beliefs, and experiences, shaping your identity.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that acknowledges the profound impact of trauma on both the mind and body. It recognizes that traumatic experiences can be stored not only in our thoughts and emotions but also in our physical bodies. By addressing these somatic (bodily) manifestations of trauma, individuals can work towards greater overall well-being and healing.

Get in touch with yourself

Somatic therapy helps rebuild body awareness and regulation. Traumatic experiences can disrupt our natural capacity to regulate emotions and bodily sensations. Somatic techniques, such as breathing exercises, grounding techniques, and gentle movement, help individuals reconnect with their bodies, release tension, and learn to regulate their physiological responses

Trauma can cause disconnection between the mind and body, leading to dissociation and a fragmented sense of self. Somatic therapy aims to integrate these aspects by fostering a sense of embodiment and helping individuals regain a felt sense of safety and wholeness. Trauma can erode an individual's trust in their own bodies and the world around them. Somatic therapy focuses on rebuilding this trust by fostering a sense of empowerment and agency. Through gentle exploration of bodily sensations and boundaries, individuals can reclaim a sense of control over their bodies and rebuild trust in themselves and their relationships.
