About Me

Hi, I'm Cassandra Massey

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist

In my personal life, I experienced the effects of childhood trauma from the perspective of a child growing up in a home with marital discord, betrayal, addiction, and high conflict, and understand the continuing challenges that early childhood distress can have on a person’s life and relationships.

These combined experiences, along with my own healing journey, have shaped my life and influenced my decision to become a psychotherapist. I am honored to work in a profession where I can help others move past their suffering and live fulfilling, present, and purposeful lives.

My background experience

  • Graduated with an MA in Marital and Family Therapy from the California School of Professional Psychology (Alliant International University) and a JD from UC College of the Law, San Francisco

  • Worked with parents, families, and adolescents struggling with relationship challenges, mental health struggles, and addiction at a community mental health agency

  • Experience working with co-parents and divorcing couples as a professional mediator and counselor for over a decade to navigate separation and divorce with compassion and grace

  • Advanced training in several therapeutic and mindfulness-based modalities

Who/what do I specialize in working with?

I enjoy working with adults and couples experiencing distress due to anxiety, emotional dysregulation, complex or childhood trauma, workplace stress/burnout, intimate partner challenges, and parenting issues. I love using interventions from the trainings I've participated including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Complex Trauma Training, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC).

In my previous career as a family lawyer, I witnessed how unmanaged chronic stress, anxiety, and unhealthy relationships can disrupt a person’s quality of life and have short and long-term negative effects on their overall health, as well as disrupt their most important relationships.

What do I do when I’m not doing therapy?

I love spending time with my kids!
