About Me

Hi! I'm Cheryl Tarnofsky

Owner/Supervisor/Therapist

In my early twenties, I was working in the fashion industry, which left me completely depleted of energy, working long hours, and emotionally taken advantage of and manipulated by my supervisor.

I wasn't enjoying my life from Monday-Friday, I wasn’t happy in my relationships, and I didn’t like what I felt was a lack of control over my circumstances.

I always loved listening to people’s stories and helping my friends with their issues, so the prospect of combining art which I loved about my career in fashion, and therapy was like magic to me.

Once I was finally let go from the difficult job I was in, I knew exactly what I wanted to do, become a therapist!

I absolutely love what I do now. Helping people grow, heal, and be empowered is a gift I try to not take for granted every single day.

My background experience

  • Graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a MA in Marital and Family Therapy with a Specialization in Clinical Art Therapy in 2016

  • Became a Registered Art Therapist and a Licensed MFT in 2019

  • Previously worked with teens in foster care for 6 years

  • Engaged in on-the-job intensive DBT training with a comprehensive program for 1 year

  • Intensively trained as a DBT therapist by Marsha Linehan's organization, Behavioral Tech

Who/what do I specialize in working with?

I love working with women who are motivated for change. I often find my strengths in helping those who struggle with relationship issues, emotion dysregulation, and feelings of worthlessness.

Most of my clients have traits of or have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, and often have experienced a lot of trauma in their lives - I have the tools available to help if this is you!

I feel very comfortable and confident that I can help folks going through stress and anxiety that stems from work, family life, and romantic relationships.

I'm happy to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for folks in the LGBTQIA community and be that supportive ally.

What do I do when I’m not doing therapy?

I train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and spend a lot of time with my 3 cats (Piper pictured here). I love reading and being outside on my deck at home.

Taking the first step

I know it can feel hopeless like nothing might ever help you feel better. I've been there as well. But if you’ve read over this, if you’ve resonated with my story and how I can help you here, then I’d highly recommend you reach out for therapy.

I also know that I am not the right fit for every client, and I encourage you to not give up hope if that’s the case.

Getting your mind to work for you instead of against you, can be the most important thing you do in your life, as it completely changes your perspective on the world.

And I’d be happy to help guide you through it.

You can book a time to chat with me below. I can’t wait to start working with you.
